PHILADELPHIA -- Scott Hartnell and Brayden Schenn scored in the second period and the Philadelphia Flyers beat the St. Louis Blues 4-1 on Saturday at Wells Fargo Center, extending their winning streak to five games.
Jakub Voracek scored late in the third and Wayne Simmonds iced the win with an empty-net goal. Claude Giroux had two assists to extend his scoring streak to six games and Steve Mason made 32 saves for Philadelphia (38-35-6).
Jaden Schwartz scored for the Blues (47-16-7), who would have clinched a spot in the Stanley Cup Playoffs with a win. They can still claim a berth if the Dallas Stars lose to the Ottawa Senators or the Phoenix Coyotes lose to the Boston Bruins later Saturday.
Goaltender Ryan Miller allowed three goals on 18 shots and lost in regulation for the second time in 10 games since being acquired by the Blues in a trade with the Buffalo Sabres. It's also the fourth time this season the Blues have lost back-to-back games in regulation; St. Louis lost 4-0 to Chicago on Wednesday.
The Flyers trailed 1-0 after one period but tied it with two goals in the second.
Hartnell's 19th of the season tied the game 57 seconds into the period. The Flyers started the period on the power play after the Blues' Vladimir Sobotka was called for hooking with seven seconds remaining in the first. Working the puck in the St. Louis zone, Giroux sent a cross-ice pass to Voracek in the right circle. Voracek didn't have a lane to shoot, but found Hartnell skating down the slot, where he lifted a shot over a sliding Miller for a power-play goal.
It was the Flyers' fifth power-play goal in eight home games since the Olympic break. They went 1-for-5 with the extra man against the Blues and are 5-for-33 (15.1 percent) at home since the NHL resumed play following the 2014 Sochi Olympics. In three road games since the break, they're 4-for-9 (44.4 percent) with the extra man.
Schenn gave the Flyers a 2-1 lead on his 18th goal. Simmonds tipped a pass by Chris Porter in the neutral zone and Schenn grabbed it and skated across the blue line. He sent the puck back to Simmonds who danced through the slot and got a shot on net from in close. Miller made the save but left a rebound loose in the crease just as Schenn got a step on Blues defenseman Barret Jackman, drove to the net and banged in the rebound at 13:24.
Trailing 2-1 after two periods, the Blues dialed up the pressure in the third period, outshooting the Flyers 11-3. But Voracek's 19th goal of the season provided Philadelphia with some much-needed insurance.
Hartnell forced a turnover by Derek Roy deep in the St. Louis end and slid a pass to Giroux. The Philadelphia captain then sent a pass across the zone to Voracek, who fired a shot from the left circle that beat Miller past his blocker at 15:41.
Moments later, Simmonds closed the scoring with an empty-net goal at 17:06.
St. Louis scored the only goal of the first period when Schwartz scored shorthanded at 6:23. Flyers defenseman Andrew MacDonald fumbled the puck in the Blues end and Chris Porter grabbed it and started a 2-on-1 breakout along the right side of the ice. Porter sent a centering pass to Schwartz, who beat Flyers goalie Steve Mason with a wrist shot between his glove and right pad.
It was the 11th shorthanded goal allowed by the Flyers, tying the Edmonton Oilers for most allowed this season.
The Flyers had ample opportunity to get back into the game but went 0-for-3 on the power play in the first 20 minutes.
Philadelphia also lost forward Steve Downie on the game's opening shift with an upper-body injury when he collided with the Blues' Patrik Berglund 45 seconds into the game.
