BOSTON (AP) -- Philadelphia coach Ken Hitchcock was in a joking mood after the Flyers stole a tie against the Boston Bruins.

Jeff Hackett made 38 saves, and Mark Recchi scored a second-period goal to lift the Flyers to a 1-1 tie with the Bruins on Saturday night.

"He's been complaining he's only got 18, 19 shots so we fixed him this time," a smiling Hitchcock said. "To get a point from a game like this is terrific."

Philadelphia, which owns the NHL's best record, is 12-1-3 in its last 16 games. But the Flyers certainly didn't start out quickly against the slumping Bruins.

Boston, coming off an embarrassing 6-0 loss at home against Toronto on Thursday, outshot the Flyers 15-3 in the opening period.

Hackett, who played 18 games for the Bruins last season, made a number of splendid saves in the first period. His best was a glove stop on Patrice Bergeron, who was alone in front.

"I knew it would be probably the toughest game I've had this year," Hackett said. "In the back of my mind, I knew it would be tough. Anytime you play back-to-back."

The Flyers beat Phoenix at home 3-2 on Friday night.

Sergei Samsonov had a power-play goal for Boston, 1-3-2-1 in its last seven. Bruins goalie Andrew Raycroft made 22 saves.

"We talked after the last game," Boston forward Martin Lapointe said. "(Coach) Mike (Sullivan) didn't need to say that much."

The Bruins, who have struggled after getting off to a strong start, knew they had to be ready for the Flyers.

"When you play teams like that, you have to get up for them, and we did," Boston's Joe Thornton said.

But it was Hackett, booed when he was announced as the game's first star, that was ready for a challenge.

"He came up big," Recchi said. "We feel fortunate to come up with that point."

Surprisingly, a crowd of 12,000 showed up from the 16,685 tickets that were sold despite a major snowstorm that blanketed the Boston area.

Thornton had a great chance in overtime, but his shot at the end of a two-on-one break hit the side of the net.

Samsonov gave the Bruins a 1-0 lead at 8:24 of the first period. Patrice Bergeron spun around the net and centered a pass to Samsonov, who beat Hackett inside the right post for his first goal in 12 games.

The Flyers had only three shots in the first period but tied it at 1 on Recchi's team-leading 12th goal 3:40 into the second. Recchi slipped a wrist shot between Raycroft's pads from the bottom of the right circle.
