Flyers visit Senators without Lecavalier
Philadelphia Flyers vs. Ottawa Senators

FLYERS (13-14-2) at SENATORS (11-14-5)

TV: RDS, TCN-PH, SNET-E

Last 10: Philadelphia 6-4-0; Ottawa 3-6-1

Season series: This is the third and final game between the Philadelphia Flyers and Ottawa Senators this season. The Flyers won the first two games, 5-0 on Nov. 12 in Ottawa and 5-2 on Nov. 19 in Philadelphia.

Big story: Flyers forward Vincent Lecavalier will be out at least 3-4 weeks with a non-displaced fracture in his lower back, the team announced Sunday.

Lecavalier was injured Nov. 30 against the Nashville Predators. He missed the past three games with what the team initially called back spasms.

"He had an X-ray in Dallas and they found something on the X-ray that didn't look right, so we flew him back to Philadelphia [on Sunday] to get him into our own doctors' hands," general manager Paul Holmgren said, adding an MRI exam revealed the fracture.

The Flyers recalled forward Tye McGinn from the Adirondack Phantoms of the American Hockey League to take Lecavalier's roster spot in time for the game in Ottawa.

Lecavalier is tied with Matt Read for the team lead with nine goals, including a team-leading five on the power play. The Flyers are 2-5-0 without him.

"It's hard to go out and replace a guy like that," he said.

Team Scope:

Flyers: Philadelphia lost to the Dallas Stars 5-1 on Saturday, surrendering three goals over a 1:02 span in the second period.

When it seemed the weekend couldn't get any worse for the Flyers, it did with the Lecavalier injury news. In the past three games without Lecavalier, coach Craig Berube moved Brayden Schenn from left wing to center on the second line, with Wayne Simmonds and Michael Raffl on the wings. McGinn has played in six games with the Flyers this season, scoring three goals.

Philadelphia is 10-5-2 since a 7-0 loss to the Washington Capitals at Wells Fargo Center on Nov. 1 dropped them to 3-9-0.

Senators: Ottawa lost 4-3 in a shootout against the Toronto Maple Leafs on Saturday. The Senators are 0-4 in the tiebreaker.

Ottawa has yet to score on 10 shootout attempts this season, prompting coach Paul MacLean to consider changing his shooters.

"I could do that, yeah. I'm open to suggestions," MacLean said, according to the Ottawa Sun. "In my experience, the guys that have been there the most are the guys that end up having the most success. That's the reason we go with the people we go with, but, as you say, maybe it might be time."

Who's hot: Flyers center Sean Couturier has six points (four goals) the past five games after he had eight through his first 24 games. … Ottawa left wing Clarke MacArthur has three goals the past five games. Center Mika Zibanejad has points in three of the past five games, including two goals. He had two assists against Toronto.

Injury report: In addition to Lecavalier, Flyers defenseman Kimmo Timonen (upper body) may miss the game. He is listed as day-to-day after sustaining the injury in the second period against Dallas. Defenseman Marc-Andre Bourdon (concussion) has not played yet this season. … The Senators boast a healthy lineup.
