Senators get Anderson back as they host Flyers
Philadelphia Flyers vs. Ottawa Senators

FLYERS (5-10-1) at SENATORS (7-6-4)

Last 10: Philadelphia 4-5-1; Ottawa 4-4-2

Season series: It's the first of three meetings between the Philadelphia Flyers and Ottawa Senators this season. The Flyers won two of three games between the teams last season, including their previous meeting in Ottawa, a 2-1 win April 27.

Big story: The Flyers are hoping to build off one of their better efforts of the season, a 4-2 win Saturday against the Edmonton Oilers that saw captain Claude Giroux score his first goal of the season. However, the Senators likely will get a boost of their own with the return to the lineup of goaltender Craig Anderson.

Team scope:

Flyers: The Flyers hoped acquiring Steve Downie from the Colorado Avalanche on Oct. 31 would add a different element to their top-nine forward group. However, they got just 10:24 from him before he sustained a concussion in his first game, one day later against the Washington Capitals.

But after missing four games, there's a chance Downie can return to the lineup for their game Tuesday.

Downie skated at practice Monday on a line with Sean Couturier and Matt Read and said that while his left eye still is badly bruised, he's feeling better otherwise.

"You definitely don't have legs the first couple days," Downie said. "But I've been skating for three days so they're coming. It’s a slow process but it’s definitely coming."

Downie said he's hoping to be medically cleared to play Tuesday. His teammates are hoping to see him in the lineup as well.

"Just the way he plays, he gets the guys going," Giroux said. "He's a smart player too, so to have him back in the lineup I think he's going to bring a lot of offense and defense."

Senators: Goalie Robin Lehner's reward for winning the NHL's First Star of the Week will be a seat on the bench.

With Anderson healed from the neck injury that has sidelined him the past three games, coach Paul MacLean announced Anderson would be in net Tuesday.

"Craig Anderson is the No. 1 goalie and he's ready to play," MacLean said. "He's playing. Robin has done a good job, but Craig is the No. 1 goalie."

Lehner went 3-0-0 with a 1.33 goals-against average and .958 save percentage last week. However, Lehner said he understands his role on the team.

"As I've said before, I was filling in," Lehner said. "Craig is the starter. He's the world-class goalie. There's not much to say."

Who's hot: Senators forward Bobby Ryan has points in six straight games; he has three goals and 10 points in his streak.

Injury report: The Flyers' only injured player is Downie, who remains day-to-day with a concussion. … With Anderson back in the lineup, the only Senators injured player is forward Erik Condra, who is out with a leg injury.
