Coming off their first loss of the season, the Philadelphia Flyers seem to have a good chance of bouncing back against the sputtering Ottawa Senators. Winning in Ottawa, however, has not come easily for the Flyers. Philadelphia tries to avoid losing its eighth straight game at Scotiabank Place on Tuesday night against the Senators. Los Angeles spoiled the Flyers' bid to open with four consecutive wins for the first time since 1995, handing them a 3-2 overtime loss Saturday. Former Flyers captain Mike Richards came up big in his return to Philadelphia after being traded in the offseason, assisting on Jack Johnson's goal at 1:39 of overtime. Johnson's goal came with James van Riemsdyk in the penalty box for tripping, one of eight power plays for the Kings. Los Angeles converted twice with the man advantage after Vancouver went 2 for 7 in the Flyers' previous game. "When that many penalties happen throughout the course of a game it really takes the flow out of your bench," coach Peter Laviolette told the Flyers' official website. "Seems like one group gets exhausted, and then the other group gets exhausted." Philadelphia (3-0-1) hopes to have better luck staying out of the box against an Ottawa team that had only one power-play opportunity in Saturday's 2-1 loss at Washington. After losing 7-1 to Colorado on Thursday, the Senators (1-4-0) had several chances against the Capitals, outshooting them 26-12 over the final two periods. But they were unable to come up with the tying goal. "It's just frustrating we don't get a point out of that game," forward Jason Spezza said. "We've got to keep trying to chip away and get some wins." Opening a three-game homestand against the Flyers could help them get one. Philadelphia has lost seven straight in Ottawa - its longest road losing streak against any opponent - since a 4-3 victory Nov. 24, 2007, its lone win in the last 11 visits. The Flyers were outscored 9-3 in their two losses in Ottawa last season after outscoring the Senators 11-3 in winning the first two meetings in Philadelphia. Ottawa-area native Danny Briere, who got his first goal of the season Saturday, has been in the middle of Philadelphia's struggles in Ottawa. He has no goals, one assist and a minus-4 rating in his last five games there. The Flyers' new goalie, Ilya Bryzgalov, is 1-2-0 with a 4.00 goals-against average in three career starts against the Senators, surrendering six goals in his lone start in Ottawa on Oct. 17, 2008, while in net for Phoenix. Alex Auld could get the start between the pipes again for Ottawa after coming up with a decent performance against the high-powered Capitals, stopping 24 shots in his first start. He is also 4-1-0 with a 2.78 GAA in seven career games against Philadelphia. The Senators' top goalie, Craig Anderson, has struggled mightily this season, going 1-2-0 with a 5.07 GAA, but he's 5-2-0 with a 2.43 GAA lifetime versus the Flyers. Spezza has led the charge for the Senators against Philadelphia, tallying two goals and six assists in the last five home meetings.
