A visit from the Philadelphia Flyers may be just what the struggling Pittsburgh Penguins need.

The Penguins will look to end a five-game losing streak when they host the Flyers at Mellon Arena on Monday.

Pittsburgh (7-6-2) has been outscored 22-12 while going 0-3-2 in its last five games. Sidney Crosby leads the team with 16 assists and 22 points, but has struggled while managing only four assists during the skid.

Evgeni Malkin, the NHL rookie of the month for October, has a goal and two assists during the skid. The second overall pick in the 2004 draft still leads the team with eight goals in only 11 games.

The Penguins have not scored more than three goals in a game during their losing streak and are coming off Saturday's 6-2 loss to the Carolina Hurricanes. John LeClair and Mark Recchi scored the lone goals for Pittsburgh.

"Tonight, it was just a weird game," said Crosby, whose team has been outshot 179-101 during its slide. "We want to forget it just like the last one."

However, the Penguins have a good chance to get their season back on track against the Flyers, who are tied with the Phoenix Coyotes for the fewest points in the NHL.

Pittsburgh has outscored the Flyers 12-2 while winning both games their cross-state rivals this season.

Crosby has four goals and one assist against the Flyers, including his first career hat trick in an 8-2 win in Philadelphia on Oct. 28. Malkin had a goal and an assist in that game, but did not play in Pittsburgh's 4-0 win over the Flyers on Oct. 5 - the season-opener for both teams - because of a shoulder injury suffered in preseason.

Goalie Marc-Andre Fleury, who is 7-5-1 with a 3.02 goals-allowed average in 13 games this season, stopped 71 of 73 shots in the two victories.

Philadelphia (3-11-2) also has dropped five straight, including Saturday's 5-4 overtime loss to the Eastern Conference-leading Buffalo Sabres. Randy Robitaille scored twice for Philadelphia, which owns the fewest wins in the NHL.

The Flyers, who are opening a four-game road trip, did show a bit more emotion than usual in the defeat as Triston Grant, Mike Richards and Ben Eager all received 5-minute fighting majors. They also came back from a 3-1 deficit to take the lead in the third period before Daniel Briere tied the game with less than three minutes to play in regulation and added the game-winner 21 seconds into overtime.

"We did a great job and had a lot of energy," center Petr Nedved told the team's Web site. "I thought the whole team played really well, I thought we deserved a better fate, but I guess when you are on a losing streak you just can't find a way to win.

"The positive thing is we all worked extremely hard, and we have to build on that."

Nedved had three assists, including the 400th of his career, and has scored all four of his points this season in the last two games. Nedved had 78 goals and 92 assists with the Penguins from 1995-97.

Peter Forsberg did not play against the Sabres with a mild right ankle sprain and is expected to miss this game.
