TIME: Friday, 7 p.m. EST.The league-leading Philadelphia Flyers look to remain the NHL's only unbeaten team at home when they take on the Phoenix Coyotes.
Philadelphia, which had a season-high 12-game overall unbeaten streak snapped with a 4-1 loss at Ottawa on Monday, snapped back into form at the Wachovia Center on Wednesday, cruising to a 5-2 victory over the Pittsburgh Penguins.
The win extended Philadelphia's season-opening home unbeaten streak to 13 games (11-0-2), and gave the Flyers 10 straight victories on home ice.
Jeremy Roenick and Mark Recchi scored and Jeff Hackett stopped 30 shots to extend his personal unbeaten streak to seven games (6-0-1) for the Flyers, who boasts a league-high 36 points.
"The Flyers are one of the teams who have a legitimate chance to go to the Stanley Cup," Pittsburgh coach Eddie Olczyk said.
Philadelphia has not lost at home since a 5-1 setback to Ottawa in Game 6 of last season's Eastern Conference semifinals. The Flyers' last regular season setback at the Wachovia Center was a 2-1 defeat to the New York Rangers on March 22, giving them an amazing 14-0-3 mark on home ice since that loss.
The Flyers did have to endure an off-the-ice distraction Thursday as the team announced that forward Claude Lapointe had entered the NHL's substance abuse treatment program.
The Flyers acquired Lapointe last March from the New York Islanders for a fifth-round draft pick. He has two goals and two assists for four points and 10 penalty minutes in 19 games this season.
"He's been having some problems so he voluntarily decided to take care of them," Flyers general manager Bob Clarke said. "When he comes back we'll get him playing again."
The Coyotes are on an impressive run of their own, running their unbeaten streak to four games (3-0-1) with Thursday's 3-2 triumph at Buffalo.
Branko Radivojevic scored the game-winner with 4:03 remaining and Brian Boucher made 34 saves as Phoenix improved to 2-0-1 on its five-game road trip.
