3/10/99 – Dainius Zubrus, a 1999 2nd round pick and a 2000 6th round pick to Montreal for Mark Recchi.
Recchi’s second stint with the Flyers may not have been as offensively prolific as his first go-round, but there was no question the impact the surefire Hall of Famer had on the franchise at the time.
He was a key component to two teams that reached the Conference Finals – in 2000 and 2004.
In 2000, playing with Eric Lindros and John LeClair, Recchi posted 91 points in the regular season and then an additional 18 more in the playoffs.
It was his fourth-best regular season in his storied career and his second-best playoff output.
In 2004, he had another great season, putting up 75 points, even though he spent much of the season not playing on the Flyers top line.
He may never have reached the ultimate goal with the Flyers, having to win his three Stanley Cups elsewhere, but Recchi was one of the best players in Flyers history during his 10 seasons in Philadelphia, and while his first five years he was an offensive dynamo on bad teams, his second five years was as a veteran who knew how to play the game, and who the fans fell in love with, who had a significant influence on several future Flyers – most notably Simon Gagne.
