He was the best captain that I played with, not only because he played extremely hard and with passion every night, but because he pushed and prodded his teammates to do the same. He was a very unselfish player, who demanded effort and success from the whole group. - Ron Hextall
DAVE POULIN
1984-85 to 1989-90

Dave Poulin became synonymous with Philadelphia hockey for his insurmountable work ethic, his intelligence on the ice and his extraordinary leadership skills resulting in being named captain of the Flyers in just his second season with the team.

Not just a leader, Poulin also had an adept scoring touch. In his first game he scored goals on each of his first two shots. In his first full season with the team, he recorded a new Flyers’ record for most points by a rookie with 76 points (31G,45A), passing names such as Barber, Propp and Clarke on that list.

During his tenure as captain, Poulin guided the Flyers to two Stanley Cup Final appearances in 1985 and 1987, while also being awarded the Frank J. Selke Trophy in 1987 to the forward who best excels at the defensive aspects of the game.

In his seven years as a Philadelphia Flyer, he appeared in three-consecutive All-Star Games and earned 161 goals, 233 assists for 394 points in 467 games. In 2004 he became the 18th member to be inducted into the Flyers Hall of Fame.
