LOOK TO THE PAST
The old saying goes, "Those that fail to learn from history, are doomed to repeat it".Winston Churchill is credited with citing that, and if the Flyers are to climb out of this enormous hole they are hoping the Bruins once again, think that the series is over after tonight’s 5-1 win in Game 3. Because as this team knows. It isn’t over. The Flyers will once again have to battle out of a 3 games to 0 series deficit in order to keep their season alive. “Obviously the start was not good for us,” said Flyers head coach Peter Laviolette. “We got through it, but we couldn’t catch any offense to get back in the game [or] anything to give us some life back. I think at that point, from where we had sunk to, the start was unacceptable. It wasn’t good. You know, the first three minutes, four minutes in a visiting team’s building, they have to be good minutes and they have to be well executed and, you know, they caught a lead early, caught a break, caught a couple goals.” The circumstances are slightly different this year, however the task remains the same, and as cliché as it sounds, the mindset has to be as well. “Throw a whole bunch clichés at you and one game at a time, one day at a time, one period at a time,” said Sean O’Donnell. “But that’s really all we can think about. We can’t think about winning four in row. We can’t think of any of that stuff, we just have to come and play the way we know we can and keep getting traffic and win a period, and hopefully win a game, and get to game five and that’s all we can do right now.” If there is one person that would give them all the confidence they need. They don’t have to look any further than the man at the top, team owner and Comcast-Spectacor Chairman Ed Snider. “I never would think this team doesn’t fight. It fights always. It’s shown that throughout. It came back from a 3-2 deficit going into Buffalo, won two in a row, won that series. Last year we showed fight throughout the playoffs. Very much the same squad so I have a lot of faith in these guys, they’re not going to ever quit.” The Flyers will put their elimination game record to the test yet again when they take on the Bruins for Game 4 on Friday night. This season the Flyers are 2-1 when faced with the task of win or go home and over the past two seasons have gone 6-1. |

The old record was 85 seconds at Edmonton on 5/25/85 in Game 3 of the 1985 Stanley Cup Final (4-3 L). * The Flyers are trailing 3-0 in a series for the seventh time in their history. They are 1-6 in the situation. * The Flyers enter Game 4 with an all-time record of 30-34 in games where they are facing elimination, including Games 6 and 7 in the Buffalo series. * James van Riemsdyk led the team in shots with six.  Flyers star of Game 3 is goaltender Sergei Bobrovsky.Coming in relief of Brian Boucher at 15:14 of the second period. Bobrovsky held his ground, making a couple big saves, including a spectacular acrobatic save towards the end of the second period going post-to-post on a one-time that was pegged for the lower corner. In the end, Bobrovsky stopped seven of eight shots through just over 24 minutes of play  The turning point came just over a minute into the game, 1:03 to be exact. David Krejci scored to give the Bruins a 2-0 lead after Zdeno Chara scored the opening goal 30 seconds into the game. Krejci’s goal immediately put the Flyers into a two-goal deficit to which Peter Laviolette used his 30-second time out right away. The Bruins would add three more goals to take Game 3 and a 3 games to 0 series lead. |

 Bruins 5, Flyers 1 Associated Press BOSTON (AP) - Zdeno Chara and David Krejci scored in the opening 63 seconds, and the Bruins added two more goals in a 95-second span in the second period on Wednesday night to beat the Philadelphia Flyers 5-1 and take a 3-0 lead in the Eastern Conference semifinals. One year after watching their 3-0 series lead disappear in an unprecedented collapse, the Bruins again moved one game from sweeping Philadelphia in the conference semis. This year they have a chance to do it at home, with Game 4 on Friday night at the TD Garden. Tim Thomas made 37 saves for Boston, which hasn't reached the conference finals since 1992. Brian Boucher stopped 16 shots for the Flyers before he was replaced with 4:46 left in the second period after Daniel Paille and Nathan Horton scored to make it 4-0. Sergei Bobrovsky made seven saves the rest of the way. Andrej Meszaros spoiled Thomas' shutout bid with 3:34 left in the middle period. The Flyers pulled the goalie with over 2 minutes left, but back-to-back penalties gave the Bruins a 5-on-3 advantage. Chara put a slap shot in with 1:22 left for Boston's first power-play goal of the playoffs. A victory in any of the next three games would help erase the sting of last year's collapse, when Boston led 3-0 in games before Philadelphia came back to tie the series. In Game 7, the Bruins took a 3-0 lead but lost 4-3 and the Flyers went on to the Stanley Cup finals. That, and the fact that the Bruins have yet to score a 5-on-4, power-play goal in the postseason, will keep them from getting too confident.
