Whole Grain Cereal...It's in Good Taste
If you are like me, you want to start your day with a healthy breakfast. But, you REALLY LOVE CEREAL. Unfortunately, many of the “healthy” cereals you have tried taste like shredded cardboard. I know. I’ve tried them, too! Wandering down the cereal isle in the food market can be quite an experience. There are boxes and boxes of various brands of cereals, all proclaiming to be healthy and packed with vitamins and minerals. And so, you begin the daunting task of reading and comparing labels. But, what should you look for? For one, look for whole grains. Did you know that the most healthful cereals are whole grain selections such as Puffins, Shredded Wheat, All Brand and Kashi and, they taste good, too. Believe me, I’ve tried them!
By selecting a 100% bran cereal, not only do you get the nutrients and phytochemicals you need, but you get up to 14 grams of fiber as well. Health organizations recommend consuming 25-30 grams of fiber a day to help reduce the risk of cancer and heart disease. They also aid in the regulation of blood sugars and cholesterol control. So, enjoy your cereal, and don’t forget to add the fruit!
