The Flyers kicked off day two of this year’s draft with the selection of forward Nicolas Aube-Kubel, the 48th overall pick.

A native of Alberta, Aube-Kubel spent the last two season playing for Val-d’Or Foreurs of the QMJHL. This past season alone, the winger tallied 22 goals and 31 assists in 65 games. He finished sixth overall on the team in points.

The Flyers Second Round selection helped his team capture the President’s Trophy and QMJHL Championship to earn a berth in the prestigious 2014 Memorial Cup Tournament.

“The playoffs with my team and the Memorial Cup helped me to be well for the draft, and I think I did well especially during the Memorial Cup,” the winger said.

The 5-foot-11 forward is described as a versatile player who is not only speedy, but also has a strong defensive skill set.

“I got good speed, good skate ability,” said Aube-Kubel at the podium as he met with Philadelphia and Canadian reporters. “I’ve got good hockey sense offensively. I can be a two way player too.”

With this pick, the Flyers have high hopes of strengthening their future offensive game.

• In 2011-12, Aube-Kubel helped College Antoine-Girouard Gaulois to the best record in the Quebec Midget AAA league, posting 24 points (11-13—24) in 41 games before adding 16 points (7-9—16) in 11 playoff games. His opponents that season included Jonathan Drouin (drafted third overall by Tampa Bay in 2013) and Daniel Audette (No. 75-ranked North American skater).
