This past weekend, the Virtua Center Flyers Skate Zone in Voorhees, NJ played host to the 6th annual Liberty Bell Games.

The premiere tournament, which is sponsored by Comcast-Spectacor and Wendy’s, showcased 91 of USA Hockey’s Atlantic District’s top high school-aged players.

In attendance to see those players were scouts and coaches from the National Hockey League, Ontario Hockey League, NCAA, United States Hockey League, United States Premier Hockey League as well as other schools and teams throughout North America.

The event began this past Friday at the Flyers official practice facility with a fan fest to celebrate the commencement of the Games.

That excitement would then quickly carry over to the ice where players began a showcase of their skills.

Throughout the ten game weekend, Team Walt Whitman was the only team to go undefeated through regulation and would lay claim as the champions of the 2014 Liberty Bell Games.

"The event certainly could not happen without our Sponsors Comcast-Spectacor and Wendy's, as well as our staff," said Liberty Bell Games and President and CEO Lew Mongelluzzo, who is also a scout for the Ottawa Senators.

"Equally important are the 91 players that committed their time and demonstrated their skill level in front of a national audience.

To date, five Liberty Bell Games alumni have been picked in the NHL Entry Draft. The latest in 2013 -- Eamon McAdam by the New York Islanders.

In 2012, Anthony Stolarz was selected by the Philadelphia Flyers and has gone on to appear in a preseason game for the Orange & Black as well as the past two Memorial Cup tournaments.

Nick Ebert was also selected in 2013 by the Los Angeles Kings, while in 2011 Troy Vance was taken by the Dallas Stars as well as Boston College stand out Johnny Gaudreau taken by the Calgary Flames.

On April 12, 2014, Gaudreau accepted the prestigious Hobey Baker Award.

"The Atlantic District continues to play a prominent role in producing and developing players to compete throughout the country at high levels," Mongelluzzo added.
