Injury Update: Grossmann, Downie and McGinn

Following up on a list of injuries revealed at the end of season media availability, Flyers President Paul Holmgren gave an update on the status of a few players today.

Defenseman Nicklas Grossman is doing well after having surgery on his right ankle. His rehab starts this week and a full recovery is expected in 6-8 weeks.

Forward Steve Downie will have surgery on his right ear today to alleviate a hearing loss issue.

Tye McGinn is doing well after surgery to his left wrist to repair a torn ligament. His full recovery is expected in six weeks.

Following the Flyers loss in Game Seven to the Rangers in the First Round, then general manager, Paul Holmgren announced that Downie had one surgery already on his ear to improve his hearing and would have another.

Downie missed the entire seven-game playoff series vs. Rangers, as well as the final 12 games of the regular season due to injury. He last appeared in the Flyers-Blues game at St. Louis on Mar. 22. Downie posted 14 assists and 17 points in 49 games since coming over to the Flyers from the Colorado Avalanche in exchange for Max Talbot on Oct. 31.

Grossmann appeared in the first four games of the Flyers-Rangers series, where he averaged 19:10 of ice-time and six blocked shots in Games 1-3 before going down with injury in the second period of Game 4 where he logged 8:03 of ice-time in 13 shifts.

In his second full season with the Flyers, he posted 13 assists and 14 points in 78 regular season games, while leading all Flyers in blocked shots (174).

McGinn appeared in 18 games for the Flyers this season, recording four goals and five points.
