FIVE THINGS: Game 7 - Flyers at NY Rangers
false

The Flyers enter their 16th Game 7 in team history, going 9-6 and earning wins in each of their last three Game 7s, most recently vs. Buffalo in the 2011 ECQF… Tonight is also the seventh time in team history that the Flyers will play a Game 7 on the road - they are 3-3 on the road in Game 7 and have won their last two Game 7s on the road… Their last three Game 7s on the road have all been decided by one goal… Only two of the 15 previous Game 7s in Flyers history have gone into overtime, both against the Washington Capitals and both on the road (2008 ECQF at WSH: W, 3-2 & 1988 Patrick Division Semifinal at WSH: L, 4-5)… This is only the second time that the Flyers and Rangers will have met in a Game 7, the only other time came in 1974 when the Flyers took a 4-3 victory in the Semifinals en route to their first Stanley Cup Championship… This is the third time that the Flyers have played a Game 7 in which they played Game 6 the night before - they won both of the previous games (2008 ECQF at Washington & 2003 ECQF vs. Toronto).

The Rangers play their 12th Game 7 in franchise history, posting a 6-5 record in the previous 11 occasions… They play their sixth Game 7 on home ice, and have won all five Game 7s they have played at Madison Square Garden… The Rangers have also won six of the last Game 7s they have played, dating back to the 1992 Patrick Division Semifinals vs. New Jersey Devils… The Rangers have won a seven-game series in the first round of the playoffs in each of the last two seasons (2012 against Ottawa & 2013 against Washington)… Tonight is the fourth time the Rangers have played a Game 7 in which they played Game 6 the night before, winning the last time one year ago in the 2013 ECQF vs. Washington, but dropping the previous two - 1950 at DET & 1939 at BOS.

The Flyers have scored six of their 15 goals in the series on the power play (40%), while going 6-for-19 (31.6%) on the power play to rank second among all teams in the playoffs thus far (Boston: 37.5%)… The Flyers have also killed off 20 consecutive power plays from Rangers over the span of the last five games, going perfect in Games 3 through 6 (16-for-16)… With his hat trick in Game 6, Wayne Simmonds now leads all players in the series with four goals and leads all players in the NHL postseason with three power-play goals… The Flyers have scored 12 of their 15 goals in the first (7) and second (5) period, while the Rangers have scored 14 of their 17 goals in the first (7) and third (7) period.

Giroux is tied for the series lead in points after posting a goal and two assists in the Flyers Game 6 victory… He now has points in four of his last five games and recorded his 18th multi-point game in the playoffs in Game 6… Tonight will be the third Game 7 of his career - he has a total of three assists in his previous two Game 7s… With his three-point night, Giroux moved past Rick Tocchet (60) and into ninth place in Flyers history with 61 points in the playoffs.
Lundqvist enters his fifth Game 7 in his career, posting a 3-1 record to go along with a 1.00 goals-against-average and a .963 save percentage, including one shutout, while also going 5-0 with a 0.98 GAA, a .966 sv pct. including two shutouts in his last five elimination games at MSG… He has never given up more than two goals in a Game 7… Lundqvist will make his 73rd consecutive playoff start tonight - a streak that dates back to Game 3 of the Eastern Conference Quarterfinals on Apr. 26, 2006 vs. New Jersey… Overall he will making his 74th Stanley Cup Playoff appearance, which is two shy of the franchise record set by Mike Richter (76).
