FIVE THINGS: Flyers at St. Louis Blues

The Flyers begin the month of April hitting the road where they will play five of their last eight games of the season… The Flyers own a 16-14-6 record on the road and have earned at least a point in five of their last six games away from the Wells Fargo Center, going 4-1-1… The Blues come into tonight's game with the second-most wins (50) and points (107) in the NHL… They play five of their last eight games at home, where they are tied for the third-most wins (26) in the NHL and have gone 6-1-1 in their last eight games… The Flyers finished the month of March with a 9-3-2 record and 20 out of 28 points, tying their highest point total of any month this season (November)… The Blues finished March with an 11-3-1 record - it was the first time in franchise history they’ve hit the 11-win total for March.

Tonight is the first time in over 10 years that the Flyers and Blues will meet more than once in a season (2002-03 was the last time)… This is only the third time in the last eight years that the Flyers will travel to St. Louis - they dropped the previous two meetings, going 0-1-1, but prior to that the Flyers rattled off five consecutive wins from  2000-01 to 2005-06… In the first meeting of this season, the Flyers scored four unanswered goals to earn a 4-1 win on Mar. 22 and had four different players record two-point games (Simmonds, Hartnell, Voracek: 1g-1a & Giroux: 2a)… All-time, the Flyers are 36-27-7-1 in 71 games at St. Louis and have an overall mark of 84-40-17-1 in 142 games.

The Blues are a perfect 6-0-0 against teams from the Metropolitan Division on home ice… The Flyers have won their last four games and are 5-0-1 in their last six games against Central Division opponents… Since coming over in a trade from the Buffalo Sabres, goaltender Ryan Miller has made 13 of the last 15 starts for the Blues, going 9-3-0 with a 2.18 GAA and .912 sv pct… Steve Mason made 12 of the 14 starts for the Flyers in March, going 8-2-0 with a 2.48 GAA and .917 sv. pct… The Flyers finished the month of March allowing just six goals on the penalty kill out of 52 opportunities (46-for-52: 88.5%) and recorded 11 goals on 51 power-play opportunities going 21.6% on the man-advantage… The Flyers have had more power-play opportunities than any other team this season (271)… The Blues have not lost a game in regulation this year when leading after the second period, going 32-0-4, while the Flyers own a 26-2-4 record when leading after the second.

Lecavalier has goals in back-to-back games, including two goals and the game-tying goal with under a minute remaining, in the Flyers 4-3 shootout loss to the Bruins on Sunday… He has recorded at least a point in six of his last nine games, posting four goals and seven points in that span… His six goals and nine points in the month of March were his highest of any month as a member of the Flyers… Lecavalier is one of seven Flyers who has at least 18 goals on the year… Against the Blues, Lecavalier averages nearly a point per-game in his career with 11 points (3g-8a) in 15 games.
Backes is currently riding a four-game point streak, posting four goals and seven points, including a hat trick, in that span… He leads the Blues in power-play goals (10) and ranks second on the team in goals (27) and third on the Blues with 56 points in 69 games… Backes has 30 (14g-16a) of his 56 points on the year while playing at home and has recorded a point in his last four homes games, posting two goals and six points in that span… He ranks third in the NHL in hits this season (259) and is one of four players since 2008-09 with over 1,000 hits and 200 points (Alex Ovechkin, Ryan Callahan, Dustin Brown)… Against the Flyers, he has just two points, both goals, in six career games.
