FIVE THINGS: Flyers at New York Rangers
Important Metropolitan Division battle looms as Flyers visit MSG




The Flyers and Rangers come into tonight's game with important playoff position on the line… The Rangers hold a one point advantage in the Metropolitan Division with 84 points, but the Flyers, who have 83 points, also have two games in hand with 10 games remaining after tonight compared to the Rangers eight games left… Beyond the two clubs, four teams remain tied for the final Wild Card position with 80 points (IN: Blue Jackets, Red Wings; OUT: Capitals, Maple Leafs)… Despite dropping their last game (3-2 vs. LA), the Flyers have a 12-3-1 mark in their last 16 games since Feb. 1 and have won five of their last six games against Metropolitan Division opponents… The Rangers come in winners of four straight games, out-scoring their opponent, 17-8, scoring just one of their 17 goals on the power-play… Henrik Lundqvist has made the start in 12 of the Rangers last 13 games.




The Flyers play their first game on the road since Mar. 16 and just their fourth game on the road since Feb. 6, a span of 14 games… The Flyers have earned at least a point in each of their last five road games, going 4-0-1, with their last three road games decided by one goal… The Flyers also own the NHL's best power-play on the road at 25.8 percent, going 31-for-120, with 31 of their 51 power-play goals coming away from the Wells Fargo Center… Brayden Schenn has 11 of his 18 goals and 22 of his 39 points this season while playing on the road… The Flyers play six of their final 11 games on the road and own an overall record of 16-13-6 away from the Wells Fargo Center.




The Flyers and Rangers wrap up their regular season series tonight with their fourth and final meeting… It is the fewest amount of times the Flyers have played the Rangers in a season since the 1994-95 lockout season… The Flyers are winning the season series with a 2-1-0 record against the Rangers with both wins on home-ice… Both the Flyers and Rangers have scored seven goals in the season series with seven different players scoring for the Flyers… Steve Mason won both Flyers contests this year against the Rangers, posting a 1.50 GAA and .955 save percentage in the process… The Flyers have dropped seven straight games at Madison Square Garden, posting an 0-7-0 record, with their last victory at MSG coming on Feb. 20, 2011… The Rangers have allowed two goals or less in 13 of their last 16 games against the Flyers, going 11-2-0 in those 13 contests… Overall, the Flyers will be looking for their 119th win in their 276th all-time meeting against the New York Rangers, owning a 118-113-37-7 franchise record… The two teams have not met in the playoffs since the 1997 Eastern Conference Final in which the Flyers won, 4 games to 1.
 




Hartnell comes into tonight's game riding a four-game point streak with three goals and three assists… Hartnell has not gone two consecutive games without a point since Jan. 23-25 - since then he has posted seven goals and 10 assists for 17 points in 18 games… Hartnell's next goal will be the 250th of his NHL career… He ranks fourth on the team with 47 points (19g-28a) and leads all Flyers in plus-minus at +10… Against the Rangers, Hartnell has one assist in three games this season and 18 career points (7g-11a) and 86 penalty minutes in 45 games. The 24-year-old defenseman comes in as the hottest Ranger, posting a four-game point streak where he has four assists and six points… McDonagh has logged over 25 minutes of ice time in each of his last seven games, including 29:16 in his last game to lead the Rangers to a 4-3 win over Phoenix where he scored the game-winner in overtime… Since Mar. 2, McDonagh has averaged a point-per-game pace with five goals and seven assists for 12 points in 12 games… He leads the Rangers defense in goals (13), assists (29) and points (42), while leading the entire team in time-on-ice per-game at 24:48… Against the Flyers, McDonagh has seven points (1g-6a) in 18 career games along with a +12 rating.
