FIVE THINGS: Flyers vs. St. Louis Blues
Flyers look for fifth straight win as they face NHL\'s point leader

Today's match up sees two of the hottest teams in the NHL - The Flyers come into the game with a 7-1-1 record in the month of March, earning four consecutive victories, three of which were against teams with 90 or more points in the standings… They have also gone 5-1-0 at home in March, outscoring the opposition, 22-12 in that span, and currently have the fourth-most wins at home in the Eastern Conference (21-12-1)… The Flyers own an 11-2-1 mark in their last 14 games since Feb. 1… The Blues come in tied for the most points in the NHL (101 - with Boston) and are 8-1-1 in the month of March, but dropped their last game, a 4-0 shutout loss to Chicago which snapped a nine-game point streak… Prior to that loss vs. Chicago, the Blues had not allowed more than two goals in 11 straight games… Claude Giroux is tied for fourth in the NHL's scoring race with 72 points and is currently riding a five-game points streak in which he has an assist in all five games and a total of eight points (1g-7a)… Newly acquired goaltender, Ryan Miller has gone 7-1-1 since joining the Blues on Mar. 2, stopping 203 of 220 shots.

With just 13 games remaining, the Blues are the only team in the NHL that they Flyers have yet to play so far this season… The two teams will play each other twice in the next 11 days with the Flyers traveling to St. Louis on Apr. 1… Today is just the fourth time in the last 10 years that St. Louis has visited Philadelphia… Although they lost the last meeting (4-2 on Oct. 22, 2011), the Flyers have a dominating 47-13-10-0 record against the Blues on home-ice and have gone 10-3-1 at home against St. Louis since 1991-92… Overall, the Flyers have dropped three of the last four meetings against the Blues, going 1-2-1 since 2008-09… Today is the 142nd all-time meeting against St. Louis with the Flyers owning an 83-40-17-1 record.

The Blues have led after the second period in nearly half of their games so far this season (34-of-69) and are unbeaten in regulation play when doing so, going 30-0-4… St. Louis ranks third in the NHL in most third-period goals scored (78), while leading all NHL teams in least amount of goals-against in the third period (46)…  The Flyers power play has gone 28.6% (4-for-14) in their last four games, while their penalty kill has stopped 20-of-21 opportunities in their last six games, operating at 95.2%… The Blues have the NHL's second-best penalty kill on the road, allowing just 15 goals on 122 opportunities… Steve Mason will be looking for his 30th win of the year for just the second time in his career and first since his rookie season when he won the Calder Trophy as Rookie of the Year, going 33-20-7 under head coach Ken Hitchcock with the Columbus Blue Jackets in 2008-09… Today is the third straight game in which the Flyers have faced an opposing team head coach with more than 600 career NHL victories (CHI - Quenneville: 701, DAL - Ruff: 603, STL - Ken Hitchcock: 652).

Since returning from the Olympics with a bronze medal, Timonen has posted more points in the month of March than any other month this season, recording seven assists and nine points in that span, including three multi-points games… He ranks second on the Flyers defense in scoring with 28 points (4g-24a) with 17 of those points coming on the power-play… He leads the Flyers defense in power-play time-on-ice per game (3:27)… Against the Blues, Timonen has more points than any other Flyer on the roster with 23 points (6g-17a) in 73 career games against St. Louis. Oshie is the Blues leader in points (54) and ranks second on the team in assists (37) and fifth in goals (17)… Oshie has five goals and 11 points in his last 14 games and he has scored in five straight games when facing an Eastern Conference opponent, posting six points (3g-3a) in that span… Oshie leads the NHL for the most shootout goals this season, going 8-for-11 with a 72.7 conversion rate… Against the Flyers, Oshie averages a point-per-game with four points (2g-2a) in four games.
