FIVE THINGS: Flyers at Pittsburgh Penguins
Series shifts to Pittsburgh as Flyers look for the sweep





The Flyers shift to Pittsburgh in their home-and-home on back-to-back days after walking away with a 4-0 shutout win on Saturday… They will be looking to hand the Pens back-to-back regulation losses for the first time since Nov. 6-13 when they lost three straight… The Flyers own a 7-1-1 mark in the CONSOL Energy Center in Pittsburgh, winning the last meeting, 2-1 on Nov. 13… The Pens return home where they have the NHL's best win percentage (.833) and third best record at 24-4-2 - They have earned at least a point in the standings in their last six games on home ice, going 4-0-2 in that span… The Flyers have earned a point in the standings in their last four road games, going 3-0-1 with their last two road games going past regulation play… Today is the 268th all-time meeting against the Penguins with the Flyers looking for their 145th win over the Penguins (144-85-30-8)… The 144 victories are the most wins against the Penguins than any other team in franchise history… On the road, the Flyers have an overall mark of 51-56-22-4.




The Flyers have scored four of their seven goals on special teams through three games in the season series (3 PPG, 1 SHG), including two of their four in yesterday's win, while the Penguins have scored just one of their five goals on special teams in the season series… The Flyers come in with the second best power play on the road, operating at 24.8% (29-for-117)… Not only do the Penguins have the NHL's best power play and penalty kill, they own the best power play, going 25-for-95 (26.3%), and penalty kill on home ice - they have allowed just eight goals on the man-advantage at home, killing 74-for-82 (90.2%)… The Pens are 35% on the power play in their last six games on home ice, going 7-for-20, while the Flyers have killed off every power play in their last two road games and have gone 92% in their last six games on the road, killing 23-of-25 times shorthanded.




The Flyers have had nine of their 11 series of back-to-backs end on the road, going 5-4-0 - overall the Flyers own a 7-4-0 mark in the second half of games on back-to-back days… The Flyers have improved their record to 7-3-2 and have won four straight games in start times of 3 pm or earlier… The Pens now own a 4-2-0 in six day games thus far… The Penguins have a total of 405 man-games lost due to injury this season, while the Flyers have 174 man-games lost, including Chris Pronger… The Pens own a 22-2-1 record when leading after the first period and a 31-3-1 mark when scoring the first goal… The Flyers are 24-5-4 when scoring first and 17-5-1 when leading after 20 minutes… The Penguins have fired 675 shots at the net in the first period, compared to just 581 in the third, while the Flyers have 631 shots on goal in the third period and 619 in the first.
 




Giroux will be playing in his 400th game in the NHL today… He posted two assists in their 4-0 win over the Pens on Saturday and has now recorded at least a point in five of his last six games with 10 points (4g-6a) in that stretch… Giroux also has points in four straight day-time starts, recording nine points (4g-5a)… He now leads all players since Dec. 11 in scoring with 47 points (18g-29a) in 36 games with 15 multi-point games during that stretch… Since his first goal of the season on Nov. 9, Giroux is second in the NHL (behind only Crosby) with 60 points in 51 games… Giroux has 23 points (9g-14a) in 26 career games against the Penguins. Malkin had his five-game point streak snapped in Saturday's shut out loss to the Flyers… Since Nov. 1 Malkin has only once gone two straight games without a point (Jan. 25-27)… He ranks second on the Pens in points (66) and assists (47) in 55 games… Against the Flyers, Malkin averages 1.38 points per game, posting 22 goals and 36 assists in 42 regular season games, including three points (1g-2a) in the first two games of the season series this year.
