Flyers look to end games on back-to-back days with a win over the Canes

OFFICIAL NHL GAME NOTES  I PHI vs CAR: A Deeper Look
1a. GAME ON!
Tuesday marked the first time in Flyers history that an entire Flyers home game has been postponed due to severe weather... The last Flyers game to have been postponed due to severe weather came in 1993, against the franchise the Flyers are playing tonight - March 14, 1993 at Hartford against the Whalers… The previous day, March 13, 1993, the Flyers vs. Los Angeles Kings had their game postponed following the first period due to a pane of glass on the Spectrum concourse that broke because of blizzard conditions.

1b. THE TWO TEAMS HAVE…
Because of Tuesday's postponed game, tonight is the first of games on back-to-back nights for the Flyers (at Columbus on Thursday night)… The Flyers are 4-6-0 in the first game and own a 6-3-0 mark in the second contest.The Flyers come into tonight's game having gone 2-2-2 in their last six games and have earned a point in the standings in four straight games, six of their last eight games, and 10 of their last 13 games… The Hurricanes come in having lost three of their last four games, but had a five-game winning streak before that stretch and now have six wins in their last nine games… Over their last two games, the Hurricanes have fired 90 shots on goal, including 51 shots in their last game - a 5-3 loss vs. Tampa.

2. SERIES SHIFTS TO PHILLY
This is the third of four meetings, but first on home ice, between the now Division rivals … The Flyers are 0-1-1 against the Hurricanes, dropping both meetings this season by a 2-1 score… The Flyers have never gone a season without at least two wins against the Carolina Hurricanes… The last time that the Flyers went without two wins against the franchise was the 1991-92 season when they went 0-3-0 against the Hartford Whalers… The series shifts to Philadelphia, where the Flyers have won seven of their last eight games, going 7-1-0… The Flyers have also earned at least one point in 25 of the last 28 games (21-3-4) against the Canes… The Hurricanes have allowed four or more goals in 10 of their last 18 meetings with the Flyers, including five of their last nine.

3. THIS, THAT & THE OTHER
The Flyers come into tonight's game as the league leader in most penalty minutes, averaging 16.1 per-game, while the Hurricanes are second-least penalized team in the NHL at 8.3 PIM's per-game… The Hurricanes lead the NHL in shorthanded goals (9)… The Flyers goaltending duo has been impressive against the Hurricanes in their career - Ray Emery is 5-0-0 with a 0.73 GAA and two shutouts in five career games, while Steve Mason is 5-1-1 with a 1.85 GAA in seven career appearances against the Hurricanes… Hurricanes goaltender Anton Khudobin has made appearances in eight straight games.

4. Player to watch FLYERS: Wayne Simmonds (RW: 17)
Simmonds comes into tonight riding a four-game point streak, posting two goals and two assists in that span… He has also recorded at least a point in eight of his 10 games in January (5g-6a) and since Dec. 17 he is tied for recording the most points of any NHL player with 12 goals and 10 assists for 22 points in a span of 17 games… Simmonds continues to lead the Flyers in goals (17) and power-play goals (9), while ranking third on the team in assists (20) and penalty minutes (77)… Simmonds averages nearly a point per-game against the Hurricanes with five goals and five assists for 10 points in 11 games.

5. Player to watch HURRICANES: Alexander Semin (RW: 28)
Semin has six goals and five assists for 11 points in his last 12 games, including three goals in his last two games… He is tied for fifth on the Canes with 12 points (9g-12a), while ranking second among all Hurricanes forward in time-on-ice per-game, averaging 19:45… Against the Flyers, Semin has 21 points, posting nine goals and 12 assists in 27 career meetings.
