Flyers sending five players to the Olympics in Sochi

Below is the list of Flyers who made the Olympic Rosters for their respective countries and will play in the Olympic Games in Sochi, Russia next month.

Below is the list of Flyers who made the Olympic Rosters for their respective countries and will play in the Olympic Games in Sochi, Russia next month.

Michael Raffl, 25, will play in his first Olympic games as a member of Team Austria. Raffl, a rookie this season with the Flyers after signing a free agent contract last May, was a member of the Austrian National team in both the 2011 and 2013 IIHF World Championships and also helped Austria reach Olympics in a qualifying tournament last February. So far Raffl has two goals and nine assists for 11 points in 29 games with the Flyers this season.

Mark Streit, 36, was named to Team Switzerland for the fourth consecutive Olympics. A longtime veteran of International play for Switzerland, Streit was on the Swiss World Junior Team for two years before playing for Switzerland 12 times in the IIHF World Championships. He was captain of the 2006 Swiss Olympic Team that finished sixth after early round upsets of the Czech Republic and Canada. In 92 career games for Switzerland in International competition, Streit has 12 goals and 34 assists for 46 points. So far this season for the Flyers, Streit has five goals and 14 assists for 19 points in 42 games.

Jake Voracek, 24, was named to his first Olympic team for the Czech Republic. Voracek has played internationally for the Czech Republic before, both in World Juniors (2008) and the World Championships (2010, 2011, 2013). Voracek was considered a favorite to be on the Czech team after a breakout campaign last season with the Flyers when he scored a career high 22 goals and added 24 assists for 46 points in a lockout-shortened 48-game season. So far this season with the Flyers, Voracek has 10 goals and 19 assists for 29 points in 42 games played.

Kimmo Timonen, 38, will play for Team Finland in the Olympics for the fifth time in his illustrious career. His first appearance came back in 1998 in Nagano, Japan. He has three goals and eight assists for 11 points in 24 career Olympic contests. He has also appeared for Finland in seven World Championships with 10 goals and 21 assists for 31 points in 57 games and played on the Finnish World Junior Team three times. So far this season with the Flyers, Timonen has two goals and 11 assists for 13 points in 42 games played.

Andrej Meszaros, 28, is making his third Olympic appearance for Team Slovakia. In 13 games at the Olympics, Meszaros has registered two assists. He has also played eight games for his country as part of two World Championship appearances (2004, 2006) and played on the World Junior team for two seasons. This season Meszaros has one goal and four assists for five points in 22 games played with the Flyers.
