Flyers to select 11th overall in 2013 NHL Entry Draft

The Philadelphia Flyers will have the 11th overall selection in the first round of the 2013 NHL Entry Draft on June 30 in Newark, NJ. The first-round draft order was determined by the NHL in a lottery on Monday.

The Flyers finished 20th among all NHL teams this season – fourth-best among the 14 non-playoff teams – and as a result had a 1.5% chance of receiving the first overall pick in the draft through the weighted lottery. The Colorado Avalanche won the lottery and the first overall selection, jumping ahead of the Florida Panthers.

The Flyers have only selected 11th once in their history, taking Jeff Carter with that pick in the 2003 NHL Entry Draft. Overall, the Flyers have only had 17 draft picks in their history that have been 11th or higher, and six of those 17 selections came prior to 1973 when there were between 12 and 16 teams in the entire league. The team’s draft history with picks of 11th or higher is as follows:

The Flyers currently hold six selections in the 2013 NHL Entry Draft, consisting of their own selections in the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 5th, 6th, and 7th rounds.

The following is a list of players that have been selected at 11th overall over the past 15 NHL Entry Drafts:
