2012-13 Flyers Team Awards Announced
The Philadelphia Flyers presented their 2012-13 end-of-season awards tonight before the start of their final regular season home game against the New York Islanders at the Wells Fargo Center.

Bobby Clarke Trophy (Most Valuable Player)
Jakub Voracek

Bobby Clarke Trophy
Jakub Voracek was selected by a panel of sportswriters and sportscasters as the Flyers team MVP.

This come after he completed 48-game season that was on par with the previous full-length seasons in his career.  Voracek enters tonight’s game with a career-high 21 goals, along with 24 assists, for 45 points.

The 21 goals are a career high, besting the 18 he scored last year.  Voracek accrued his 18 goals in a total of 78 games last year, but this year needed only 42 games to reach that point.

He has scored eight of his goals this season on the power play, which ranks sixth in the NHL headed into tonight’s games, and is one of only three Flyers to appear in all 46 games for the team so far this season.

Barry Ashbee Trophy (Outstanding Defenseman)

The Barry Ashbee Trophy
Kimmo Timonen earned his fourth Barry Ashbee Trophy as voted by a panel of sportswriters and sportscasters.

Timonen wins the award for the second consecutive year, and previously won the award in the 2007-08 and 2008-09 seasons.  Timonen will finish his season with five goals and 24 assists for 29 points, which ranks fourth among all NHL defensemen in scoring.  Timonen’s scoring pace this season would have translated to a 53-point year in a full 82-game season, which would have been his most as a Flyer and two points short of his career high.

Also, his plus-minus rating of plus-3 is second on the Flyers’ roster among players who have appeared in 30 or more games.   Timonen joins Hall-of-Famer Mark Howe as a four-time Asbhee winner, trailing only Eric Desjardins (7-time-winner) in team history.

Pelle Lindbergh Memorial Trophy (Most Improved Player)
Jakub Voracek

Pelle Lindbergh
Memorial Trophy
Jakub Voracek was also named the Flyers’ most improved player from the previous season as voted by his teammates.

This comes after he completed 48-game season that was on par with the previous full-length seasons in his career.

Yanick Dupre Class Guy Memorial Award
Scott Hartnell

The Yanick Dupre Trophy
The Philadelphia chapter of the Professional Hockey Writers’ Association (PHWA) selected Scott Hartnell as this year’s recipient of the Yanick Dupre Class Guy Memorial Award.

This award is presented annually to the Flyer who best illustrates character, dignity and respect for the sport both on and off the ice.  Hartnell rebounded from an early-season broken bone in his foot to score eight goals in 30 games, which is on pace for a 21-goal full-length season.

The award honors the memory of Yanick Dupre, who died on August 16, 1997 at the age of 24 after a 16-month battle with leukemia. Dupre played parts of three seasons with the Flyers (1991-92, 1994-95 and 1995-96), recording two goals and 16 penalty minutes in 35 games. He was originally drafted by the Flyers in the third round (50th overall) of the 1991 NHL Entry Draft.

Gene Hart Memorial Award
Zac Rinaldo

The Gene Hart Trophy
The Philadelphia Flyers Fan Club selected Zac Rinaldo as the winner of the Gene Hart Memorial Award. This award is given to the player who demonstrated the most “Heart” during the season as voted on by members of the Fan Club at their monthly meetings.

The award honors the memory of longtime Flyers broadcaster Gene Hart. For 28 years, Flyers broadcaster Gene Hart called the organization’s most thrilling moments, and in the process, helped spawn generations of devoted fans.

Hart’s contributions to the sport were recognized with his induction into the Flyers Hall of Fame in 1992 and the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1997.
