Walk Together Forever

PHILADELPHIA – It was a long time coming, but now the notion of walking together forever has finally been memorialized in bronze.

Named after the famous quote scribbled on a chalkboard by Flyers coach Fred Shero in May, 1974, Comcast-Spectacor unveiled a new seven-foot tall statue commemorating one of the most iconic moments in Flyers history – one depicting Bobby Clarke and Bernie Parent skating with the Stanley Cup following their second consecutive title on May 27, 1975.

The statue, weighing 400 pounds, was unveiled Saturday morning in a ceremony that brought together eight players from the second Stanley Cup team as well as team chairman Ed Snider.

“I’m really happy that it came to fruition,” Snider said. “I wish it would have come at a happier time but it was scheduled and we did it and we have great fans. It was great to see them all here today and they’re still behind us and that means an awful lot to the organization.”

The statue was named “Walk Together Forever,” which was chosen by a vote among Flyers fans.

In attendance were Clarke, Parent, Bill Barber, Reggie Leach, Orest Kindrachuk, Joe Watson, Bob Kelly and Don Saleski.

Comcast-Spectacor President Peter Luukko served as Master of Ceremonies for the event.

“Lifting the Cup is pretty easy, but winning it is extremely hard,” Clarke said. “I want to thank Mr. Snider, Keith Allen and Freddie Shero. They put the group together that won this Cup. Our families and the fans of Philadelphia were a huge part of us winning. And for our group of players, this statue represents them as Stanley Cup Champions.”

Designed by STATUES.COM, the statue was custom created and built by a talented sculpting and fabrication team who specializes in statue manufacturing.

The team included Lead Production Manager Vasilios Karpos, Lead Foundry Manager Ken Donnelly, artisan foundry refining by Miguel Cardoso and Yanni Trastsis, silicone mold construction by Karpos and Trastis and clay sculpting construction by Virgil Oirtle and Karpos.

Sculpting began from scratch using fine artistic clays based off of the famed photo as a direct reference to create detailed accuracy of not only that moment in time but of both players portraiture, uniforms and the Stanley Cup itself.

After the seven-foot tall model was completed and approved, a silicone mold was constructed followed by highly skilled bronze foundry work, finishing the over 400 lbs. bronze monument. The entire process took almost nine months to complete and all work was proudly produced, created and constructed in the United States.

The studio that the statue was created in is located in Salt Lake City, Utah and is a Certified Made in USA company operating since 1995.

“This is a fantastic day,” Parent said. “Thank you [Mr. Snider] for your vision in 1967 to provide this city with such beautiful talent. I’m grateful to be here today and have played in Philadelphia. The journey has been so incredible. Like Fred Shero said that one night, “Win tonight and walk together forever.”

That wasn’t just for the players but for the whole city. And here we are no celebrating again.”
