Wishing Keith Allen a Happy Holiday
Philadelphia Flyers Hall-of-Famers Bill Barber and Joe Watson visited yesterday with Keith and Joyce Allen in Newtown Square, PA, as Keith is battling an illness. Allen serves as the Executive Vice President of the Flyers and has been an integral part of the Flyers family since the inception of the team. He was the first head coach of the Flyers, leading the club behind the bench at their inception in 1967. He coached the team through the 1969-70 season. In 1969, Allen became the Genral Manager of the Flyers and held that position until May 1983. During his tenure as GM, the Flyers won two Stanley Cups (1973-74 and 1974-75), reached the Stanley Cup four times, and compiled a 563-322-194 record for a .612 winning percentage.
He was inducted in the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1992, joining Ed Snider in the Builders category and players Bernie Parent, Bobby Clarke and Bill Barber. He was inducted into the Flyers Hall of Fame in 1989.
Please join the Flyers in wishing Keith and Joyce well and hoping they have a very Happy Holiday!
