Meszaros Out Indefinitely
Flyers general manager Paul Holmgren released a statement early Tuesday morning regarding an injury sustained by Flyers defenseman Andrej Meszaros:

"Andrej had successful surgery this morning to repair a torn right achilles tendon. The surgery was performed by Dr. Steve Raikin at Jefferson Hospital in Philadelphia. Andrej was injured last week during summer training in Slovakia. Andrej will be out indefinitely."

Meszaros missed a total of 20 regular season games this past season, including the final 19 games of the regular season and the first 10 of the Flyers' 11 Stanley Cup Playoff games.

He returned in Game 5 of the Eastern Conference Semifinal series vs. New Jersey after a back injury forced him to undergo surgery on Mar. 21 to remove a disc fragment that was impinging on a nerve root.

In that game, Meszaros appeared in 30 shifts for a total of 19:26 of ice time and had two shots on goal in the Flyers' 3-1 loss vs. Devils.

Prior to that, he recorded 25 points (7G-18A) and 38 penalty minutes to go along with a plus-minus rating of +6 in 62 games for the Flyers. Of his seven goals, two were game-winning tallies.

The Flyers acquired Meszaros in a trade from Tampa Bay on July 1, 2010, sending a 2nd round pick in this year's NHL Entry Draft to the Lightning.

In his first season with the club, Meszaros posted 30 points and led all defensemen with eight goals and tied for the team lead with a plus-minus rating of +30, which also tied for fifth in the entire NHL.

Meszaros won the Barry Ashbee Trophy as the Flyers' Most Outstanding Defenseman for the 2010-11 season.

The 2011-12 season was just the second time in his seven-year NHL career he had missed more than one game in a regular season. Over the course of his NHL career, the former NHL All-Rookie Team defenseman has appeared in 522 of 574 games.
