Flyers re-sign (G) Michael Leighton
The Philadelphia Flyers announced today that they have re-signed goaltender Michael Leighton to a contract, according to general manager Paul Holmgren.

“I'm very happy to be back in Philly,” Leighton said.  “This is where I want to be and I'm excited about the team we have this year. I look forward to the opportunity to continue working with Jeff Reese.”

Leighton, 31 (5/19/81), was originally acquired by the Flyers in December 2009 and has spent the last 2 ½ seasons with the organization.  He also appeared in four games for the Flyers during the 2006-07 season.  In 32 career regular-season games for the Flyers, Leighton has a record of 19-7-2 with a 2.68 goals-against average.

During the 2010 Stanley Cup Playoffs, Leighton set a new franchise record for shutouts in a playoff series when he recorded three shutouts in the five-game Eastern Conference Finals against the Montreal Canadiens.  In 14 games during that playoff run, Leighton posted a record of 8-3 with a 2.46 GAA and .916 save percentage.

In 104 NHL games with Chicago, Nashville, Carolina, and the Flyers, Leighton has a career record of 35-40-10-4 with a 2.95 GAA and .902 save percentage.

Leighton has appeared in 86 games over the past two seasons with the Flyers’ American Hockey League affiliate, the Adirondack Phantoms, where he posted a record of 42-38-4 with a 2.45 GAA during that time.  He also represented Adirondack in the 2012 AHL All-Star Classic.  In 352 career AHL games, Leighton has a record of 170-143-14-15 with a 2.29 GAA and .918 save percentage.  He was the winner of the AHL’s Aldege "Baz" Bastien Memorial Award as the league’s best goaltender after the 2007-08 season, when he was 28-25-4 with a 2.10 GAA and .931 save percentage for Carolina’s AHL affiliate in Albany, NY.
