It's draft week in the NHL and prior to departing for Pittsburgh, Pa., Flyers general manager Paul Holmgren will meet with the media this afternoon on a number of topics related to the draft.

The Flyers head into this year's draft with five picks overall, including one selection in the first round, which will be at the 20th overall position.

This is also the fourth time in the club's history that the Flyers own the 20th overall pick and if history is any indicator, a defenseman might be in the plans for the Orange & Black.

With the three previous selections at No. 20, the Flyers selected defensemen each time beginning with Larry Goodenough in 1973. The Flyers chose Kerry Huffman (1986) and Darren Rumble (1987) in back to back years with the other two selections.

The other picks the Flyers hold in their hand at the moment are from rounds 3-7, which excludes their sixth round pick, which now belongs to the LA Kings.

3rd Round (78th overall pick - from San Jose)
4th Round (111th overall pick)
5th Round (141th overall pick)
7th Round (201st overall pick)

Of course "at the moment" is important to note, because just as last year proved, the Flyers could always move up in the draft and gain additional picks during the chatter that goes on with all 30 teams and general managers in one location.

The Flyers entered last year's draft without a pick in the first round, but moved all the way up to the eighth overall selection in a deal with the Columbus Blue Jackets which saw them acquire their pick at No. 8, along with right wing Jakub Voracek and a third-round (68th overall) selection in 2011, in exchange for center Jeff Carter.

With those picks, the Flyers selected Sean Couturier and Nick Cousins respectively.

Round 1 of the Draft will take place on Friday, June 22 from the CONSOL Energy Center in Pittsburgh and broadcast live by NBC Sports Network in the United States and TSN and RDS in Canada, beginning at 7 p.m., ET.

Rounds 2-7 will take place the following day (Sat., June 23) and will be broadcast live by NHL Network™ throughout North America beginning at 10 a.m., ET.
