Future Watch: Tyler Brown
The Flyers signed the undrafted Brown to an entry-level contract back on Mar. 2, 2011 after a four-year career with the Plymouth Whalers of the Ontario Hockey League.
Scouts from all over the NHL and junior hockey have a checklist of what to look for when watching a potential player.

Tyler Brown hit many of the items in the good column on that checklist, one of which was obvious to management and scouts during training camp.

“One thing about Tyler, and the first thing that jumps out at you, is that people remember back at training camp that he can skate,” said Chris Pryor, the Flyers’ Director of Hockey Operations. “He’s got extremely good speed and good size.”

Brown currently stands at 6-foot-2 and 185 pounds and recently completed his first year as a pro with the club’s AHL affiliate in Glens Falls, NY.

Brown finished the season with the Phantoms with eight goals and nine assists for 17 points, but in each year throughout his hockey career, Brown has grown by leaps and bounds.

Brown was even a member of the “Black Aces”, nine players that were recalled by the Flyers during their Stanley Cup Playoff run this season.

The Flyers signed the undrafted Brown to an entry-level contract back on Mar. 2, 2011 after a four-year career with the Plymouth Whalers of the Ontario Hockey League where he was a teammate with current Bruins All-Star Tyler Seguin for two seasons.

With the Whalers, Brown recorded a total of 123 points (48G-75A) in 220 games, including 25 goals and 57 points in his final season to rank third on the team in scoring.

Brown stepped up his game in the playoffs that year as well. He led Plymouth with 14 points (3G-11A) in 11 games.

Like so many of the Flyers prospects, this summer is important for Brown to work hard and prepare for training camp.

“The summers are big for these kids. They can make up a lot of growth in one summer so he’s going to be working hard; he knows the pro game and we expect a lot more from him, as does Tyler [himself]. It’s exciting to think about where he could be next year.”

Where he could be is in Orange & Black, like so many rookies found out this past season.

Added Pryor: “We like Tyler a lot. Right now, he can be a specific role player because of his size and his speed. Those attributes will give him a chance to play.”

Fans will get to see Brown and the other members of the future Flyers at this year’s annual prospect camp in July.
