1. PENALTIES EARLY; SCORING EARLY
It was clear from the beginning that the officials weren't about to let this one escalate, calling eight penalties, all of which were minors in the first period. As a result, seven goals were scored within the game's first 20 minutes. Overall, the two teams combined for 100 penalty minutes (36 - PENS, 64 FLYERS).

2. BOB ENTERS THE SERIES
After just 23 minutes into Game Four, Sergei Bobrovsky came in relief of Ilya Bryzgalov, who allowed five goals on 18 shots… Bob by no means had it easy upon entering the series, facing a Penguins power play that had gone 2-for-4 already in the game. The Flyers allowed a goal on that man-advantage as well, adding to the Pens lead… Bob ended the contest by also allowing five goals on 18 shots.

3. ROLE-REVERSAL
All series it had been the Flyers punishing the Penguins on the power play, entering the game 6-for-10 and scoring an additional three in the game, but the Penguins also tallied a total of four goals on the man-advantage tonight, including two quick goals in the second period to give them a three-goal lead.

4. EIGHT UNANSWERED
In a run-and-gun style contest, the Penguins capitalized on virtually every opportunity they received and ended the contest posting eight unanswered goals.

5. LAVY'S TAKE
Flyers head coach Peter Laviolette re-enforced the notion of playoff hockey following the game.

"I’ve said it a numerous amount of times, desperation wins hockey games.  And that team came out, they’re a talented group, and they played desperate.  They tried to account for every stride, and they were better than us tonight.”
Per GM Paul Holmgren, Nicklas Grossman is day-to-day with an upper body injury.

The 10 goals allowed tied a franchise record also set by the Penguins, who scored 10 goals on the Flyers in a 10-7 win in Game 5 of the 1989 Patrick Division Finals.

That win gave the Pens a 3-2 lead in that series, but the Flyers came back to win it in seven games.  Mario Lemieux scored five goals in that game, which remains a shared NHL record today.

The loss is the most lopsided playoff loss for the Flyers since an 8-0 loss to Buffalo in Game 6 of the 2001 Eastern Conference Quarterfinals.

Jordan Staal’s hat trick was the first against the Flyers in the playoffs since the 2006 playoffs against Buffalo.

The last time the Flyers had three or more playoff goals twice in the same playoff series was the 1985 Wales Conference Finals vs. Quebec, which they won four games to two.

Claude Giroux now has 10 points (5G, 5A) in the four games of the series.

Seventeen of the Flyers’ 18 skaters had at least one hit tonight.

“There’s nothing you can do.  We lost.  It’s a 3-1 in the series right now.  We need to win the one game and everything will be over.”
- Ilya Bryzgalov

"We just have to find out what kind of team we are and how we are built. If we think we are a good team, like we think we are, we have to respond next game and play a lot better game; play good on the road like we did all year long."
- Jaromir Jagr
Tonight's turning point came in the second period on the Penguins sixth goal of the night.

After trailing 4-3 at the end of the first period and then falling behind 5-3 early in the second, Penguins forward Jordan Staal capitalized on another power-play goal to make it a three-goal game, 6-3, while limiting the Flyers shots and scoring chances from the first period.

The Penguins would score an additional four goals on their way to the Game Four victory.

Penguins 10, Flyers 3
Associated Press

PHILADELPHIA (AP) - Pushed to the brink of a sweep, Pittsburgh's Sidney Crosby, Evgeni Malkin and Jordan Staal pushed back with a vengeance, helping the Penguins score nine goals in the first two periods in a 10-3 win over the Philadelphia Flyers on Wednesday in their opening-round playoff series.
