THE STREAK ENDS Both the Flyers and goaltender Sergei Bobrovsky's streak of five straight wins in the Penguins new building came to an end in today's loss… The Flyers fought back on two occasions with goals by rookie Brayden Schenn and Jaromir Jagr, but eventually fell by a score of 4-2 to end their regular season. 2. SCHENN GETTING INTO A GROOVE Brayden Schenn, who had a goal and an assist in the game, is finding a groove in the last month or so. Schenn set up a good amount of the scoring opportunities for Flyers in today's game… He has three goals and three assists for six points in his last seven games. 3. ANOTHER YEAR IN THE BOOKS The Flyers ended their 44th season of play today with a 47-26-9 record for 103 points… It marks the seventh time in their last 12 seasons they have reached the 100-point mark mark and 19th time overall. 4. ROOKIE MINUTES The Flyers core of rookies finished the game with a large amount of ice time. Brayden Schenn led the way with 21:19 and 27 shifts, which was a new career-high, while Matt Read also saw over 20 minutes of ice time (20:12) and 27 shifts… It was the 11th time all season Read went over 20 minutes of TOI. 5. LAVY'S TAKE Flyers head coach Peter Laviolette made clear that no matter what happens in the regular season, the Stanley Cup Playoffs are a different season all together. "I think every year is different. I don't think there's a secret recipe; I really don't when it gets to the playoffs. Tonight has nothing to do with Wednesday. Wednesday will be a different animal." |
Claude Giroux, who did not play in the game, finished the season with 28 goals and 65 assists for 93 points in 77 games. It’s the most points in a season for a Flyer since Eric Lindros had 93 points in the 1998-99 season. Zac Rinaldo now has 232 PIM, which puts him nine PIM ahead of Columbus’s Derek Dorsett for the league lead. The Blue Jackets play the Islanders tonight. Rinaldo could become the first Flyer to lead the league in PIM while spending a full season with the club since Ben Eager (233 PIM) did it in 2006-07. Daniel Carcillo led the league in PIM in the 2008-09 season; however, he was a midseason acquisition from Phoenix. Sean Couturier tied his season high with five shots. The Flyers finished the season with 64 goals scored by rookies, which accounted for nearly 25 percent of their goals on the season (24.6% -- 64-for-260). 
Schenn posted a goal and an assist, while setting up numerous other scoring chances in the game. He got the Flyers on the board, by capitalizing on a rebound and firing it past starting goaltender Marc-Andre Fleury. He later added an assist on the power play to Jaromir Jagr's goal. Schenn finished the season with 12 goals and five assists for 17 points. |

Today's turning point came towards the end of the second period. Having already climbed back in the game twice to tie it up, the Flyers were facing a 3-2 deficit when Evgeni Malkin scored his 50th goal of the year to make it a 4-2 game with 12 seconds left in the second frame. The goal gave Pittsburgh momentum heading into the intermission, and the Flyers couldn't muster a third period comeback, eventually falling 4-2. |

 Penguins 4, Flyers 2 Associated Press PITTSBURGH (AP) - Evgeni Malkin scored his 50th goal of the season and added an assist to lock up his second NHL scoring title and the Pittsburgh Penguins beat the Philadelphia Flyers 4-2 on Saturday. Malkin finished the regular season with 109 points and became the ninth player in Penguins history to reach the 50-goal mark when his wrist shot with 12 seconds left in the second period beat Philadelphia's Sergei Bobrovsky to give Pittsburgh a two-goal lead.
