As the Flyers get set to take on the Detroit Red Wings tonight at "The Joe", there just might be a little more incentive to post a victory against the NHL's best team.

The Detroit Red Wings will be looking to tie the NHL record for consecutive home wins which the 1975-76 Flyers and 1929-30 Boston Bruins both own with 20 victories.
The Flyers went 36-2-2 in the Spectrum during the 1975-76 season, including an NHL record 20 straight home wins.

The Flyers rattled off victory after victory in the Spectrum from Jan. 4 through Apr. 3, 1976. The victory on April 3rd was also the last Flyers home game of the regular season, making every game in the New Year during the 1975-76 season a victory.

Detroit currently stands at 19 consecutive wins on home ice, having not dropped a game at Joe Louis Arena since Nov. 3 in a 4-1 loss to the Calgary Flames.

In fact, the Red Wings have only lost TWO games on home ice in regulation the entire season. They dropped one game in overtime to own an overall record of 22-2-1 at home.

In 1975-76, the Flyers finished with a 36-2-2 record at the Spectrum.

The Flyers have not had much luck in Detroit in recent years, despite a win last season that put an end to a 20-plus year drought, but that is of no concern to this Flyers team.

"This team has never played against Detroit," said Claude Giroux. "From forwards to defense to goalies, we need to make sure everyone is on the same page. Guys need to get a little pissed off here and start winning some games."

The Flyers enter the game as one of the premier teams on the road. They have 18 victories away from Philadelphia, which is tied for second-most in the NHL, while also posting the second-most goals scored (87) and power-play goals (25) on the road.

As much as the record, and the importance of it, will be on the minds of media and fans throughout the league, the most important aspect of tonight's game will be yet another crucial two points in the standings.

"Besides that record we just need to buckle down," said Wayne Simmonds. "We have only won one of our last handful of games and we need these points. Every point we can get is desperate and we need it."
