Claude Giroux is one of a few players midway through this NHL season with a chance for the Art Ross Trophy (the NHL’s scoring champion) and the Hart Trophy (the NHL’s most valuable player).

With his popularity at an all-time high amongst Flyers fans, his star status also appears to be growing among hockey fans everywhere.

Giroux recently joined the twitter world. And by recently we mean a day ago.

In that one day @28CGiroux has gained OVER 50,000 followers.

"It's pretty cool. I didn't know what to expect and I'm new to the whole thing," said Giroux, who received a little pushing from his fellow teammates to join.

"Matt Carle's my roommate and he talks to me a lot about it. He tweets some funny stuff. I hang out with Hartnell a lot too. He has a lot of fun with it so I just thought I would try it."

To compare, teammate Scott Hartnell (@Hartsy19) started in mid-November and has gained 41,229 followers.

Matt Carle (@MattCarle25) has had his Twitter account since February of 2011 and has 38,442 followers.

James van Riemsdyk (@JVReemer21) however leads the Flyers pack, for now, with over 65K followers.

Just like Giroux's goals, assists and points total throughout his career have grown, expect his following on Twitter to do so as well.
