STRUCK DOWN
TAMPA, Fla. (AP) - Steven Stamkos had two goals, Mathieu Garon made 31 saves, and the Tampa Bay Lightning beat the Philadelphia Flyers 5-1 on Tuesday night.

The Lightning went ahead 2-1 on Stamkos' rebound backhand at 7:25 of the second.

After Steve Downie scored at 11:41, Stamkos got his 22nd goal of the season to make it 4-1 with 1:15 remaining in the second.

Bruno Gervais and Vincent Lecavalier also had goals for the Lightning, who had lost four of six. Defenseman Victor Hedman left in the first period with an upper-body injury.

Scott Hartnell scored for Philadelphia, which is 1-3-1 over the past five games. Flyers goalie Ilya Bryzgalov gave up Tampa Bay's first three goals on just eight shots.

Gervais put Tampa Bay ahead 1-0 at 9:34 of the first. The goal came after Garon stopped in-close shots by Matt Read and Danny Briere, and made a save on Hartnell during a breakaway in the opening seven minutes.

  FULL RECAP
The Flyers have now lost a total of seven games on the road this season in regulation or overtime; four of the seven have come to Tampa Bay and the New York Rangers (two apiece).

Claude Giroux assisted on the Flyers’ only goal to move to 44 points on the season (17G, 27A).  He leads the league in scoring by two points over Pittsburgh’s Evgeni Malkin, who moved ahead of Toronto’s Phil Kessel into second place with two assists in Pittsburgh’s win tonight.

This is just the fourth time the Flyers have lost back-to-back games this season; they have not lost three games in a row at any point this season.

Danny Briere had 11 shots toward the net tonight – seven on goal, two blocked and two misses.

The Lightning only had 32 total shots toward the net tonight (16 on net, seven blocked, nine missed), which equaled the number the Flyers had on the net alone.  They had another 22 blocked and 19 that missed (73 total).

“No, we were aware they were a good team that if we fool around, we’ll have some trouble. I think we played very well. Our team played very well. Their goalie played an outstanding game.”
- Ilya Bryzgalov

“It was frustrating. We didn’t score goals on our chances in the first period when we outshot them, 17-4. We had chances, we just didn’t score.”
- Jaromir Jagr
Tonight's turning point was the power-play goal late in the second period by Steven Stamkos.

Trailing by a score of 3-1, but perhaps sparked by the energy brought to the table by the one-sided fight between Wayne Simmonds and Lightning defenseman Eric Brewer, the Flyers would have entered the locker room at the second intermission down by two goals with a good chance to win the third period.

Stamkos' league-leading 22nd goal of the yaer however put the Flyers down by three and with the defensive system that the Lightning play, shut down any hope of a Flyers comeback.
PIC OF THE NIGHT: Wayne Simmonds fights Lightning defenseman Eric Brewer following Tampa's third goal.
