Two Goalies Added to Flyers Alumni Roster
The Flyers have announced that two-time Stanley Cup champion and Hall of Fame goaltender Bernie Parent will play in the Flyers-Rangers Outdoor Alumni Game on Dec. 31 at Citizens Bank Park.

In addition, Flyers Hall of Fame goaltender Ron Hextall has been added to the team’s official roster as an ambassador.

Parent, who was previously serving as a Flyers Ambassador for the game, has now been placed on the “active roster” and will see between five-10 minutes of action between the pipes for the Flyers.

Parent spent parts of 10 seasons with the Flyers and is considered the greatest goaltender to ever wear the Orange and Black.

He led the Flyers to their first Stanley Cup in 1974, posting a record of 47-13-12 record, a 1.89 goals against average and .933 save percentage during the regular season. He set NHL records for games played (73), wins (47), and recorded 12 shutouts, while recording an additional two shutouts in the Stanley Cup Playoffs, one of which was the Cup-clincher for the Flyers in Game 6 of the Finals against the Boston Bruins.

A year later, Parent duplicated the feat by shutting out the Buffalo Sabres in Game 6 to clinch the Flyers second straight Stanley Cup.

In both seasons, Parent secured the Conn Smythe Trophy as the Stanley Cup Playoffs most valuable player and the Vezina Trophy as the leading goaltender in the NHL.

He appeared in the NHL All-Star Game on five occasions and as a Flyer, posted an all-time record of 232-141-101 with a 2.42 goals-against-average to go along with his 50 shutouts in 486 regular season games. Parent also recorded a 35-28 record with a 2.38 goals-against-average and six shutouts in 63 Stanley Cup Playoff games in a Flyers sweater.

On Oct. 11, 1979, he was the second Flyer to have his jersey No. 1 retired. In addition, he was elected to the Hockey Hall of Fame on Sept. 25, 1984 and the Flyers Hall of Fame in March of 1988.

Hextall appeared in 489 regular season games during his 11-year Flyers career (1986-87 through 1991-92 and 1994-95 through 1998-99 seasons), posting a 240-172-58 record and 2.91 goals-against average.
Ron Hextall's first game as a Philadelphia Flyer in 1986.

His 489 games played and 240 wins as a Flyer rank him first all-time in Flyers history.

He helped the Flyers reach the Stanley Cup Final on two separate occasions, once in 1987 and again in 1997. Over the course of 84 playoff games for the Flyers, Hextall registered a 45-36 record and 2.95 GAA. His 45 playoff wins are the most in Flyers history.

He was elected to the Flyers Hall of Fame on February 6, 2008.
