Following Sestito
Tom Sestito looks like one of those guys that would be the perfect personality type to tweet.

Since December of 2010 he has proved it.

“I first began when I got called up to the Columbus Blue Jackets,” said Sestito. “My agent thought it would be a good idea as a way to connect to the fans, so I’ve been doing it ever since.”

Thus, @TomSestito23 was established and Sestito started tweeting away.

“I try to make it fairly entertaining and I enjoy being interactive with the fans. I get a lot of cracks about my game on there which is all part of the business, so I have fun with it.”

Sestito came over to the Flyers organization as the Flyers lone move on Feb. 28. He was acquired from the Blue Jackets in exchange for Phantoms forward Greg Moore and 2010 Draft Pick Michael Chaput.

He was assigned to the Flyers’ farm team in Adirondack and immediately suffered a hand injury that shortened his season.

The hand injury by no means slowed down his tweeting.

“There’s no schedule for me at all. If something comes to mind, I’ll tweet it,” said Sestito. “If I feel like it, I’ll hop on and see what’s going on in the world.”

Currently, Sestito follows 75 tweeters on his account, but over 5,000 fans out there are tuning into Sestito’s tweets, and the account continues to grow.

Fans that follow him know that he is likely to respond to tweets sent to him as well.

Sestito joins a growing list of Flyers who are on twitter, including defenseman Matt Carle (@MattCarle25), forward James van Riemsdyk (@JVReemer21), and even former Flyer defenseman and current radio color analyst Chris Therien (@ctherien6).

While working out and training with some current Flyers this off-season, Sestito admitted that he is well aware of the dangers that can occur with athletes tweeting.

“It can definitely be a burden [to have your own account], but if you just keep it clean and just touch on some subjects out there, it can be a nice way to connect to our fans.”

Sestito entered the recently completed Prospect Camp at full strength and hopes that his first Flyers camp will help him hit the ground running in September, when he hopes to make the Flyers full-time squad.

“I don’t want to just make the team; I want to be able to contribute by scoring goals, fighting, hitting and do whatever I need to do to make it. That’s my goal and anything less is a failure in my mind.”

Flyers fans are sure to know what’s going on in Sestito’s mind during training camp this fall. They’ll do so from the man himself: @TomSestito23.
