Former NHL MVP; Five-Time NHL Leading Scorer joins Flyers

Jagr Lands in Philly
The Philadelphia Flyers announced today that they have signed free agent RW Jaromir Jagr to a contract, according to general manager Paul Holmgren.
 
Jagr, 39 (2/15/1972), most recently played for Avangard Omsk in the Kontinental Hockey League, where he posted 51 points (19G, 32A) in 49 games last season,  Over the last three years with the club, he scored 66 goals and added 80 assists for 146 points in 155 games.
 
Jagr last played in the NHL in 2007-08, when he recorded 25 goals and 46 assists for 71 points while appearing in all 82 games for the New York Rangers.  He ranks ninth all-time in the NHL in scoring with 1,599 points (646G, 953A) in 1,273 career NHL games over 17 seasons with Pittsburgh, Washington and the Rangers.  He was part of Pittsburgh’s 1991 and 1992 Stanley Cup championship teams, where he was a teammate of current Flyers assistant coach Joe Mullen.
 
In addition to his two Stanley Cups with Pittsburgh, Jagr has won two gold medals at the World Championships (2005, 2010) and an Olympic gold medal (1998) representing his native Czech Republic.  At the 2011 World Championships, Jagr posted five goals and four assists for nine points in nine games in helping the Czech Republic to a bronze medal.  His tournament included a hat trick in a 4-0 win over Team USA in the quarterfinals.
 
His individual honors include the 1999 Hart Trophy as NHL MVP, an award for which he was a finalist five other times; five Art Ross Trophies as the NHL’s leading scorer, and three Lester Pearson Awards as the league’s top player as judged by his NHL peers.
