Ashbee Banner Night Arrives
Over the past two years the Flyers organization, as well as the many patrons around the city of Philadelphia, have been paying tribute and remembering the Spectrum.

With demolition set to begin tearing down the Spectrum to make way for Philly LIVE, the Flyers are honoring each of the four members of the organization to have their number retired and never worn again by a member of the Orange & Black.

Tonight, the Flyers honor Barry Ashbee prior to face-off during a special pregame ceremony.

A limited amount of tickets still remain for tonight’s game, please CLICK HERE below to purchase great seats, and receive this one-time only replica banner presented by VW (see photo on the right).

While ALL fans in attendance will receive a replica of the banner presented by VW, Donna Ashbee will be the recipient of her late husband's Number 4 Banner that hung in the Spectrum.

“He would be as proud as we are, I’m sure,” said Mrs. Ashbee. “We appreciate everything that the Flyers have done and the fans continue to remember and honor him; it’s just a great recognition for him.”

As for the banner itself, Ashbee admitted she was pleasantly surprised to see one of her wishes come true when she heard that the Spectrum would be torn down.

“Lou Scheinfeld and I were talking about the different events surrounding the closing of the Spectrum and at one point he asked me if there was anything that I would like, and I told him that I would like the banner. Since then, the organization has kept me in the loop on what’s going on and it’s working out perfectly.”

Like so many of the families of Flyers alumni, Ashbee spent a good amount of time in the Spectrum, and more so now than ever, can’t help recalling the experiences, the ups and downs of the many long Flyers seasons and of course two Stanley Cup Championships.

“It was a great building, filled with terrific memories. It’s going to be a big hole when that building is gone. We’re used to having it being there. They needed a larger venue, but it is going to be sad.”

However Ashbee, like all other families of the Flyers Alumni throughout the years are anything but melancholy when it comes to the organization and it’s close-knit alumni.

“It’s been long lasting relationship with our family and the Flyers. Ed Snider has been over the top in keeping us in the Flyers circle and of course that’s made it great for my kids growing up and now my grandkids. We all get to go to the games. It does make you think, ‘wow’, it’s been a lot of years and there’s been a lot of players. Players will stop me from time to time and say they remember when…great memories.”
