Philadelphia Flyers General Manager Paul Holmgren confirmed late Monday night that the club has signed right wing Bill Guerin to a Professional Tryout.
“Bill has been a very good player for a long time in our league,” added Holmgren. “We are happy to have him in camp."
The 39-year-old Guerin has been participating in informal skates with the Flyers for the last two weeks at the Virtua Center Flyers Skate Zone in Voorhees, N.J.
He appeared in 78 regular season games with the Pittsburgh Penguins last season, finishing fifth on the team in scoring with 45 points and tied for third with 21 goals. He added another nine points (4G,5A) in 11 playoff games.
The Penguins announced that they would not bring back the free-agent forward on Aug. 26.
Guerin is a five-time NHL All-Star, including All-Star Game MVP in 2000-01, and has won two Stanley Cup Championships during his 18-year NHL career. His first title came with the New Jersey Devils in 1995 and again as a member of the Pittsburgh Penguins in 2009.
In his career, he has accumulated 429 goals and 427 assists for 856 points in 1,236 NHL regular season games and 74 points (39G,35A) in 140 Stanley Cup Playoff games.
