(Boston, MA) - Philadelphia Flyers coach Peter Laviolette was in no mood to discuss it. Captain Mike Richards provided a playful jest when asked about it.

Thing is, no one will ever know what happened during the second-period exchange between Flyers agitator Daniel Carcillo and Boston Bruins forward Marc Savard because there were so many bodies and equipment in the way.

Savard would ultimately be sent to the box for a slash on Flyers goalie Brian Boucher at the 5:45 mark of the middle period. On that same play, however, Carcillo muscled down Savard in the right circle following his whip on Boucher's glove. Savard then got back to his feet and proceeded to lunge at the Flyers' player as the scrum moved into the right-wing corner.

What happened then is anyone's guess. But the post-game comments certainly made for fan fodder.

"He bit me," Carcillo said. "Last time I have been bit was in grade school. It's not a good feeling and it's pretty cowardly."

Carcillo was then asked if he was surprised.

"That he bit me?" Carcillo wondered. "Yes. Guys don't bite. Men don't bite."

Savard, as you might expect, saw it differently.

"He pummeled on my face. He pulled on my teeth, so I guess that's biting when a guy tried and pull your front teeth out like his," Savard said. "He embellishes stuff so obviously under the pile, you try and pull out my front teeth, so if that's a bite, then I don't know what to say."

Carcillo was told what Savard said about the altercation.

"Oh yeah, that's what I try to do when I get into a scrum is try and pull people's teeth out," he said, stern-faced.

When asked for his comments during the post-game press conference, Laviolette was in no mood to offer an opinion one way or another.

"I heard something about it but I'll be honest, I haven't thought about a bit finger yet," Laviolette said. "I'm still in the game, and worrying about that. Those things usually sort themselves out. If he was, I'm sure it will get looked into."

After answering numerous questions about the disappointing 3-2 loss and what his team needed to do to rebound, the Carcillo-Savard incident actually put a smile on Richards' face.

"Maybe he bit himself," Richards said. "I have no idea what happened there."
