Flyers Sign Three Prospects

Wellwood, Pither, Harper ink deals for 2010-11 season

The Philadelphia Flyers announced today that they have signed forwards Eric Wellwood of the Windsor Spitfires and Luke Pither of the Barrie Colts of the Ontario Hockey League, and Shane Harper of the Everett Silvertips of the Western Hockey League to future contracts which will begin at the start of the 2010-11 season, according to club General Manager Paul Holmgren.

Wellwood, 19, has 31 goals and 34 assists for 65 points and 36 penalty minutes and a plus/minus rating of +34 in 61 games with the Spitfires. Last season, Wellwood recorded 34 points (16G,18A) in 61 regular season games. He also posted 10 goals and 11 assists for 21 points in 20 games to help lead the Spitfires to the OHL Championship, as well as four points (1G,3A) in six games to help Windsor win the 2009 Mastercard Memorial Cup.

In his fourth season with Windsor, Wellwood has recorded 122 points (58G,64A) and 60 penalty minutes in 213 regular season games. A native of Oldcastle, Ontario, he was selected by the Flyers in the sixth round (172nd overall) of the 2009 NHL Entry Draft.

Pither, 20, has 87 points (34G,53A) and 42 penalty minutes and a plus/minus rating of +35 in 61 games this season, his first with Barrie. His 87 points leads the team, while his 53 assists rank second and 34 goals rank third on the Colts.

A native of Oshawa, Ontario, Pither has registered 102 goals and 141 assists for 243 points and 155 penalty minutes in 301 regular season games over parts of five seasons in the OHL with the Kingston Frontenacs (2005-06 to 2006-07), Guelph Storm (2006-07 to 2008-09), Belleville Bulls (2008-09) and Barrie (2009-10).

Harper, 21, has 74 points (39G,35A) and 36 penalty minutes and a plus/minus rating of +32 in 66 games with Everett this season. His 74 points and 39 goals lead the team, while his 35 assists and +32 rating rank second on the Silvertips.

A native of Valencia, Calif., Harper has compiled 97 goals and 111 assists for 208 points and 95 penalty minutes in 329 games over a span of five seasons in the WHL with Everett (2005-06 to 2009-10). Of his 97 goals and 208 points in his junior career, he has posted 71 goals and 140 points over the last two seasons with the Silvertips.
