Flyers 2009-10 Local Television Schedule

All 82 games to be televised locally

The Philadelphia Flyers announced that all 82 of their 2009-10 regular season games will be locally televised. Comcast SportsNet will televise 63 games, The Comcast Network (TCN), will televise 10 games and VERSUS will televise eight games exclusively in the local market. In addition, NBC’s exclusive coverage of the National Hockey League on Sunday afternoons potentially includes five Flyers contests.

On Jan. 1, NBC will again televise what has become the signature event for hockey fans everywhere to celebrate the game they love – the 2010 Bridgestone/NHL Winter Classic®. The game, which starts at 1 p.m., ET, features Eastern Conference rivals the Philadelphia Flyers and the Boston Bruins squaring off outdoors at historic Fenway Park in Boston, home of the Red Sox.
 
The Flyers will have three of their preseason games broadcast locally. Comcast SportsNet will televise the game on Thursday, Sept. 24, between the Flyers and the New Jersey Devils at the Wachovia Center at 7 p.m., The Comcast Network will carry the game on Tuesday, Sept. 22 vs. the Detroit Red Wings at 7 p.m. and the Flyers’ preseason game in London, Ontario vs. the Toronto Maple Leafs at the John Labatt Centre will be broadcast by the NHL Network at 7 p.m. In addition to the televised Flyers preseason schedule, philadelphiaflyers.com will be web casting the Flyers vs. Minnesota Wild game on Tuesday, Sept. 29 at 7 p.m.
 
Jim Jackson, Keith Jones and Steve Coates make up the Flyers’ television team and will call the action for Comcast SportsNet and The Comcast Network broadcasts. In his 14th season of calling play-by-play action for the Flyers, Jackson has won five Mid-Atlantic Emmy Awards in the category of Individual Achievement – Sports Play-By-Play/Color Commentary. Jones, in his fourth season as a member of the Flyers’ television team, will be back in the booth for TV Color Commentary. Entering his 27th season as a member of the Flyers’ broadcast team, Coates will again report from rinkside to provide viewers with insight and analysis of the game through interviews and live accounts of the action. Coates has been nominated for a Mid-Atlantic Emmy Award in six of the past 11 years and has taken home the award on two occasions. Comcast SportsNet’s coverage of the Flyers is led by Executive Producer/Director Bryan Cooper, entering his 20th year with the Flyers. Cooper has been nominated for a Mid-Atlantic Emmy Award in the category of Live Sports Coverage/Series in five of the past 11 years, winning twice.
 
NBC enters its fifth consecutive season as the network broadcast partner of the NHL and will offer flexible scheduling for their regular season dates, providing fans the most exciting match-up available. Thirteen days prior to the scheduled game (Monday), a game will be selected for broadcast on NBC. All NBC “Game of the Week” games will be broadcast on Sundays and all games will be presented in High Definition.  In conjunction with the NHL, NBC will select one game as the "Game of the Week" to be broadcast during the NBC window. If the Flyers’ game on Jan. 17 at Washington, Jan. 24 vs. Pittsburgh, March 14 at New York Rangers, Apr. 4 vs. Detroit or Apr. 11 vs. New York Rangers is not selected, the game will remain available to the team’s regional carrier, but cannot be televised during NBC's broadcast window.
 
VERSUS enters the 2009-10 NHL regular season after double-digit ratings and viewership growth last year.  The network saw 27% growth in viewership for the playoffs after seeing viewership jump more than 20% during the regular season as compared to the year prior. In total, VERSUS will televise 54 regular season games, wall-to-wall Stanley Cup Playoff action and Games 3 and 4 of the Stanley Cup Final.
