2007 Statistics

Overview:
Colton Gillies is the prototypical power forward. The nephew of former New York Islander Clark Gillies, Colton shows a knack for knocking his opponents off of the puck and connecting on thundering checks. He has tremendous speed for a big man, and has shown himself to be a valuable penalty-killer.

Gillies is listed just 30th among Central Scouting’s ranking of North American skaters, but 13th overall by International Scouting Services. Among the parts of his game that could use improvement are his ability around the net and his positioning. His lack of goal production could also hurt his overall draft position.

Gillies participated in the 2007 CHL Top Prospects Game for Team White; had 12 points (6G, 6A) in 2005-06 to finish third among Blades’ rookies in scoring; was selected to play for Team Canada at the 2007 Under-18 World Championships; was an assistant captain of the gold-medal winning Team Canada at the 2006 Under-18 Junior World Cup; and was a member of Team Pacific at the 2005 Under-17 World Hockey Challenge helping his team win silver.

The Flyers say...
"Colton Gillies is a big, up-and-down winger. He skates really well, hangs around the play and gets involved. He is not afraid of a little contact, and has decent skill and hockey sense."
- Director of Hockey Operations Chris Pryor
