On this date in 1997, the Flyers debuted their first alternate jersey, an 'all-black' sweater, in a 4-1 victory over the New York Islanders at the CoreStates Center.
This third jersey was worn 73 times over four seasons (1997-98 through 2000-01) with the Flyers compiling a 40-25-8 record in those games.
The 'all-black' jersey served as the Flyers' road jersey for the 2001-02 and 2002-03 seasons, replacing the orange-based road jersey that the Flyers used from the 1967-68 through 2000-01 seasons.
