On this date in 1980, center Rick MacLeish scored three goals to lead the Flyers to an 8-2 win against the Los Angeles Kings at the Spectrum. The hat trick was the 12th career three-goal game for MacLeish as a Flyer, which at the time was the most hat tricks by a Philadelphia Flyer.

He currently ranks second on the Flyers All-Time Hat Trick list behind Tim Kerr's 17.

A member of the Flyers Hall of Fame, MacLeish ranks fourth all-time in Flyers history in scoring with 697 points in 741 regular season games. His 328 goals and 369 assists rank sixth all-time in Flyers History in their respective categories.

In 1972-73, MacLeish became the first member of the Flyers to ever score 50 goals in a single campaign.

MacLeish ranks fourth in Flyers history with 105 Stanley Cup Playoff points and is tied for the all-time lead with 53 goals (with Bill Barber) and is the Flyers all-time leader in game-winning goals in the Stanley Cup Playoffs with 10.

MacLeish scored the Stanley Cup game-winning goal in the Flyers' 1-0 win over the Boston Bruins in Game Six of the 1974 Stanley Cup Final, the first of the team's two consecutive Stanley Cup titles.
