On 'This Date in Flyers History' Flyers goaltender Bernie Parent recorded his fifth career shutout in a 3-0 victory over the Pittsburgh Penguins at the Spectrum. Parent stopped all 20 of the Penguins 20 shots against to give the Flyers the first of only two shutouts they would record in the entire 1968-69 season.
Parent would again shut down the Penguins offense two years later on Oct. 17. This time however, the Penguins did the same. The two teams battled to a 0-0 tie in 1970. Parent, as well as opposing goaltender Les Binkley, would still get credit for the shutout. For Parent, it was his ninth career shutout in a career that saw him blank opponents 50 times while wearing the Orange & Black.
