By This Date in Flyers History
On this date in 1979, the Philadelphia Flyers defeated the Toronto Maple Leafs 4-3 at the Spectrum to record the franchise’s first win in their famous 35-game undefeated streak.

The Flyers came out strong tallying three goals in the first period to Toronto’s one. Flyers forwards Paul Holmgren, Reggie Leach and Brian Propp scored within five minutes of one another. The teams played to a stalemate in the second period as Toronto came within reach of one goal.

To secure the win, Bob 'The Hound' Kelly posted the game-winning goal as the Maple Leafs could only come within one before the buzzer. Flyers goaltender Pete Peeters stopped 25 of 28 shots in the game.

The win sparked the longest such streak in professional sports history. The Flyers would go almost three months without losing a game. From Oct. 14, 1979 through January 6, 1980, the Flyers compiled a 25-0-10 record, before losing to the North Stars in Minnesota on January 7, 7-1.
