In the first round (22nd overall), the Flyers drafted center Simon Gagne from Quebec in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League. After recording 120 points (50G,70A) in 61 games during his final season of junior hockey (1998-99), he joined the Flyers for the 1999-2000 season. In five seasons with the Flyers (1999-2000 through 2003-04), Gagne has registered 113 goals and 132 assists for 245 points and 117 penalty minutes in 354 regular season games. He was named to the NHL All-Rookie Team for the 1999-2000 season and played in the NHL All-Star Game in 2001.
In the sixth round (168th overall), the Flyers selected goaltender Antero Niittymaki. Niittymaki would play four more seasons in Finland before joining the Flyers organization for the 2002-03 season. He has played the last three seasons for the Flyers' American Hockey League affiliate, the Philadelphia Phantoms. He has seen limited action with the Flyers, winning each of his three starts during the 2003-04 season.
