May 13, 1975...Flyers Defeat Islanders, 4-1

Rick MacLeish is one of only two Flyers to record three hat tricks in postseason play (Tim Kerr).

On this date in 1975, the Flyers defeated the New York Islanders at the Spectrum, 4-1, in Game Seven of their Semifinal series. With the win, the Flyers advanced to their second consecutive Stanley Cup Finals.

The Flyers had won the first three games of the series, before the Islanders captured Games Four, Five and Six to force a seventh game in the series.

Kate Smith started things off on the right note with a live appearance to sing "God Bless America."

Nineteen seconds into the game, the Flyers had a 1-0 lead on a goal by Gary Dornhoefer. Rick MacLeish scored a power play goal about two minutes after Dornhoefer's tally to increase the Flyers lead to two goals, 2-0. Jude Drouin scored a power play goal for the Islanders to cut the Flyers lead to one goal, 2-1, at 5:02 of the first period. With Denis Potvin in the penalty box serving a two-minute penalty for interference, MacLeish scored his second power play goal of the game to restore the Flyers two-goal lead at 3-1.

After a scoreless second period, MacLeish completed his hat trick by scoring a goal at 18:52 of the third period to make the final score; Flyers 4, Islanders 1.

Flyers goaltender Bernie Parent stopped 38 of 39 shots faced, including all 26 shots faced over the last two period, to record the win for the Flyers.
