May 8, 1980...Flyers Defeat North Stars, 7-3

Bill Barber's nine goals in the series against Minnesota tied the team record for most goals by one player in a playoff series.

On this date in 1980, the Flyers defeated the Minnesota North Stars at the Spectrum, 7-3, in Game Five of their Semifinal series.

The Flyers dominated the first period, outscoring the North Stars, 4-2. Rick MacLeish, Bill Barber, Reggie Leach and Bob Dailey each scored a first-period goal for the Flyers.

The Flyers scored the first two goals of the second period (by Leach and Barber) to increase their lead to four goals, 6-2. Minnesota cut the lead to three goals on a goal by Rob Flockhart. Bobby Clarke closed out the second-period scoring with a goal at 16:19, which sent the Flyers into the second intermission with a 7-3 lead.

A scoreless third period led to a 7-3 Flyers win and a four-games-to-one series win for the Flyers. With the victory, the Flyers advanced to the Stanley Cup Finals.

With his three points in the game (2G,1A), Bill Barber set a new team record for most points in a playoff series with 12 (9G,3A). Three of Barber's nine goals in the series were scored while the Flyers were shorthanded, including one of the two that he scored in this game. His three shorthanded goals in the series set a new NHL record for most shorthanded goals by one player in a playoff series and tied the NHL record for most shorthanded goals by one player in a playoff year.

For Minnesota's Flockhart, he scored a goal in what turned out to be the only NHL playoff game of his career.
